Can someone recommend a good DVD-RW media. I thought Verbatim would be good and I purchased a 3 pack from Newegg. One disk was defective and the othe two seem to be prone to pixalation.

Verbatim's should have been good - would have been my 1st choice for rw.
Make sure your drive's firmware is up to date. You can try sony, fuji or maxell - just look for made in japan.

I have been using Fuji DVD-RW 2X DVD's for a stand alone DVD-R recorder since Christmas and they are fine. They code out as Ritek W01 disks. Bought a 15 pack from Best Buy for some cheap price after Christmas.

I bought a 10 pk of sony DVD+RW discs about 2 years ago. They code out as phillips 041 and have been rxcellent rw's. Finally threw 2 away only because of excessive scratches which of course wasn't the medias fault.

I thank all of you for your response. The basic theme seems to be that purchasing a label that is made in Japan is a good rule to follow. I am leary of the verbs right now since the small sample of 3 that I purchased are acting up. I have used Verb DVD-R with great success but the -RW's that I have say made in Taiwan not Japan. I will take a look in the stores to see which brand has the Made in Japan label.

You will find that the majority of verbatim media is made in taiwan. Some are made in singapore. There are some verbatims that are made in japan but these will actually code out as taiyo yudens and are not available in the states.

Verbs will usually id as being made by MCC - Mitusbshi Chemical Corp who also now owns them. MCC is usually great stuff in the league of Taiyo Yuden. Like Mort81 most will be made in Taiwin and some Singapore. The rule of thumb is look for made in japan except for verbatim.
