This usually happens when your DVD drive is in use by another application. Turn off any packet writing software running, like InCD from Nero, or drag to disk for Roxio, they hold the drive in a state that allows for the drag and drop of files to a CD/RW or DVD/RW, it needs to be deactivated for DVD Shrink be able to use the drive. Use the task manager to kill off processes one by one if you want to really know which task it is in a methodical way.
Also make suure your drive's region is set, you could also play the DVD for a few seconds, stop play, close your player then run shrink.
Thanks for your reply. I open task manager and nothing is running. I am not sure how to shut whatever program it is down. I thought your suggestion of playing the DVD for a moment was a good option but realized at that point the DVD movie is out and the blank is in. Nothing on it to play.
I tried to shout at you My apologies. I was excited that someone had sopme help for me. I am wasting way too much time trying to manufacture coasters.
If using nero (what version?), can you post the log.
If you have nero's INCD packet writing software installed, I would uninstall it unless you format alot of disks (RWs). You can use the INCD clean tool found here:
http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/InCD_CleanTool.html
If using roxio software, just shut down the drag to disk application shown in the lower right hand corner or any roxio applications shown as running in the task bar.
If you really want to know whats running on your system, try using an application called "process explorer". You can get it here, you'll find the zip file at the bottom of the page:
If it doesnt, try searching for the drive letter of that drive - i.e. 'F:'
If it finds something, click on it in the search window. The main window should then highlight the process / 'File' entry that contains the handle to the drive. You can right click -> close the handle if you like, or just close the entire application, it's up to you.
