go download Xlink Kai or XBconnect
Then get signed up.
Then get a connection between the PC and Xbox with a crossover cable.
You will then be able to use the system link function under multiplayer to play people online any time you want for free.
I was never a fan of Xbox Live as it is a pay service and bans people for all kinds of reasons.

yeah xbl does have a handle on things but xbc is horrible for this reason... there aren't many people playing all the time in your "area", you'll have a problem if you don't have a wicked fast connection, and you can never find the game type you want.
xlink is a whole lot better!!!!!! if your box is modded you can set up the engine to run off your comp and look for games on your xbox

yeah, i have only used Xlink Kai, but i have both. Just never tried XBconnect yet. The person who told me about it and helped me set it up did it on Kai.
Then i can just start Halo 2, go into the system link, pick to start a game and choose my options then just wait. People always join up withon a few minutes. I usually have about 8-15 people who join a game when i start it.
Only problme they have is that there are no ways to tell who is cheating with their trainers. I accidently started up a game without changing my settings the first time. I had trainers on for a few things :)
The people must have been pissed because i wiped them out left and right until i realized what i was doing and stopped to turn them off and make it a fair fight.
The best way to always have games is to start your own clan, they have specific rules that need to be followed with Kai and some of them are a bit odd. Like having to have your own clan website, and it can not be a free one but has to be one you pay for the domain name. And you have to have both a founder and co-founder, and i think a certain number of members.
XBconnect barely has any rules to making your own clan other than signing up for their pro version of the program which is only like $15, so i may try them out and set up a clan there very soon. That way i can recruit memeber and we can plan days and games. Then you know you will always be able to get a good game, and even start challenging other ckans to wars :)

yea i have a clan on xbc 15 dollars isnt really anything to pay...i really dont like kai because of its Interface i like the look and feel of xbc......

i was thinking of getting my xbox online but it seems with halo 2 there are that many cheaters out there that i probably wouldnt stand a chance.i should get it online sooner or later hopefully.on system link or multiplayer i normally just hide and sniper people until they find my location then i run around with a shotgun(shooting players) and find another location to sniper from.
custom built gaming pc from early 2010,ps2 with 15 games all original,ps3 500gbs with 5 games all original,yamaha amp and 5.1channel surround sound speakers,46inch sony lcd smart tv.

yes, people cheat which is just unfortunate.
I can't believe that winning means that much to them.
It's just a freakin' game.
Play fair and get yourself killed a few time, it will be a lot more fun. Heck i get myself whooped all the time because i am not nearly as good as other players, but at least i play fair and have fun.
If you ever want to play with a non-cheater let me know and we can set it up for some night. Maybe play a little co-op multiplayer stuff on Xlink Kai or XBconnect

i forget, is that the mode with just you and one other person?
If so i just pick a map that you are use to and know ok.
I like one with a top floor and a sniper riffle :)
then you can get it, head up a floor and wait for that poor sucker to come running into view :) Then snipe or granade him from above.
Other than that there is no real strategy outher than keeping your eyes open and knowing where your opponents are as much as possible.
Oh and being an accurate shot helps a lot.

sniping and moving around a lot is your best option.if they cant find you they cant kill you.the shotgun is really good for sneaking up on people and taking them out with 1headshot.grenades are good even when your getting shot throw one and it might take the other player out even if your dead or throw one and run when you getting shot at.

go to mlgpro.com they have all the tips for playing halo 2 online, strategy and other stuff...and for stiemy and xbox good strategy's but what if they play other game types with no sniper or shotgun lol.....

nothing new for me i assure you
Like i said, i love to play others but do not have hours to spend getting very good at it so i just do what i can.
If i get beat, then i get beat. But i have fun doing it.
I played Farcry Instints with a clan once and they just whooped me
every chance they got, they seemed to be VERY good. Even if i got the jump on them and started firing away, i would be the one who ended up on the ground dead :(
