You know what? There are no good quality dvd media at low prices in Canada. I didn't even found Canadian online stores who sell blank media. The cheapest media I found at stores was 2.25$ but they were pure craps!"!// I saw a single DVd-r at FutureShop for the very little price of 10$(LOL). That's why I buy my media in bulk online from USA.

Hello
If your in Toronto area, the computer stores in College and Spadina area are the cheapest. However this is still not cheap, the best I have found is Princo or Ritek 2x DVD-R for $3ea and Legency DVD-RW for $4.5ea (if buy 10). These are without tax and in Ontario add 15% to these prices. These are the cheapest but not the best, from a 10pack legency I have had one bad disc. From the Ritek I have bought 30 discs and had 8 bad discs. These 8 were in last 15 bought, so may just be that batch.

thanks for the info guys. i did find that you can get a Verbatim 50PK DVD-R MEDIA 4.7GB GENERAL 2X SHINY SURFACE SPINDLE for 193.67 cdn or about 3.87 a dvd and they also have Verbatim DVD-R 4.7GB 2X THERMAL (50PC SPINDLE) for 209.18 cdn or about 4.18 a dvd. I'm not exactly sure on the difference between Shiny surface and thermal surface, but there is a slight price difference. I've heard Verbatim are usualy pretty good media. The website is www.ncix.com

Hi,

I know there is a distributor in Vancouver. The price is good and depends on your quantity. His email address is eric@1electronicx.com. I think the brand he sells is Optodisc 1x, and I use a few of them to backup the games without any problems. My burner is A05. I hear his disc can go up to 2x on the Sony one. He also has -RW, +RW, and -RAM. Good luck...

For product in Canada checkout
www.canada-computers.com

It searches numerous Canadian dealers for product. I just put together a new system and found this site quite good.

Hello
After some searching I found www.sonnam.com to be about the cheapest with Ritek 2x DVD-R sinny and thermal for ($3 and $2.5 each respectfully). Hope this helps, it would be nice if Canada could get the prices others talk about in the UK and US with less than $1 for a DVD-R.

Please let us know if anybody can get DVD-Rs for a lesser price than $2 per Disc!

Canada computers isnt too bad. But a better deal is next door (in Pacific Mall) at Sunny Computers. 2x Princos (white label) are $2.00 and they work great. Canada computers sells 1x Princo DVD-RW in a JC for $2.99!

Both these stores have a good selection.

Guys, you can buy 100 dvd-r from canada computers for 129.00 plus tax. They are prico 1times but I have never had a prob with them. I was also checking around and saw tigerdirect.ca has 50 powerup dvd-r discs for $45.99. I don't know how good they are though. If anybody has tried them, please let me know.

If anyone lives in Montreal, you can to MicroBytes. 50 DVD spool for $115 including tax. They're no-name DVD-R and probably only 1X, but I've burned about 20 without a single problem (knock on wood)

$170 for 100 Princos (that burn at 2x) including tax and 100 sleeves. Do the math :)

Thats from Sunny Computers. I have burnt about 100 of the same discs before and have yet to have a problem.

Canada Computers and Sunny seem to have better prices on each other on different items. I just walk back and forth and compare. ;)

Those who bitch about Princo DVD-Rs apparently haven't tried many others. I have NEVER had a problem with Princo, while other generic brands crap out on me all the time. I burn 50 discs per month on average. Ritek is also good. These are all 1x discs. I hear that burning at 4x causes stutter upon playback on some DVD desktop players. So, 1x may be slow, but its the cheapest and the most compatible way to go. Also, in Vancouver, check out The Tape House (Burnaby). They have DVD-Rs from $1.75, although those won't burn right to the edge.

paxophile, you've probably just been lucky with your Princo discs :)

Many of mine have developed read errors (not sure if the dye is failing on them or what?) and have become impossible to back up to a different DVD-R. Neither my burner or dvd-rom drive can read them, especially the outer edges of the disc. I've had no trouble at all with higher quality brands like Ritek, TDK, Verbatim. My PS2 also has a lot of difficulty with Princo discs.

Another place you might want to try in Vancouver (Richmond actually) is http://www.myeshop.ca/ - if you're looking to buy locally they sell 100 1X Princo's for $140, or 100 1X-2X Ritek's for $190. They ship right to your door for a very reasonable price.

I am wondering the quality comparison of the Ritek 1X and 4X, is there much of a difference?
I also heard you can burn the ritek 1x as 2x disc, is it true?

I have burnt over 50 disks and they all burnt fine, but in play back i noticed that the Cheaper Opt.1X unbrand had some errors and there were freezes in some scenes. I still use them. But i might just stay with Ritek 1X. They seem fine, i did have one problem wit hone, about 1 hour and 40 mins into the movie it freezed, with 5 mins left. That might be a error on the program or something happened. After i finsh this batch i'm going to go fro Ritek Go3, that's 1 X that's if i can get them for a good price. I used ritek 4X, man 15 mins is alot better then ritek 1X takes about an hour to burn.

You can burn 1x at 2x, but I would not recomend it as the disc will most likely fail. It`s not designed for the higher speed. you should always stick to the certified speed rate.

I bought Princo for $1.49 CDN at Canada Computers. They seem to work for what I want to do as long as I keep my movies under 4GB I have no problems. Over 4GB and at the end of the movie it starts to lock up.

The first thing to know is that DVD media/burners are a jungle of interoperability problems. I highly recommend checking out http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdwriters and seeing how others have done with a particular media and the burner you own before purchasing.

I haven't bought from https://www.myeshop.ca yet but their prices definitely look good: 50 spindle of 4x Princos for $99 cdn. 100 Ritek 4x for $305 cdn.

If you find a better price post it here!
