I'm currently running the most up to date version of Anydvd (5.8.4.1), and Clonedvd2 (2.8.5.1). I also have the latest firmware loaded for my plextor external burner (4 pin to 4 pin firewire connect). Media using: Verbatim DVD+R DL up to 6x speed w/ compatible high speed burners.

Now with the problem. On a couple of recent backups (Zathura) I have gone through the normal process of allowing Anydvd to remove the encryption in the background, then used Clonedvd2 to create a Complete un-edited backup (without removing any warnings, trailers, etc.)Just did a exact untouched backup. Now when I take this DVD+R DL disc and test it on a couple of newer and older dvd players, it get's about 3/4 through the movie and during a action sequence with a quick explosion the disc always starts to cause the piture to almost jitter on the screen, and the images will become paused or frozen, then it will skip to a chapter just past that sequence, or I will have to press the next chapter button on the remote to skip the problem. I have also had this happen with a couple other backups, and I'm almost pulling my hair out.

When I have used Clonedvd2 in the past up to today, I have been burning at 8x, with the above mentioned DVD+R DL media. Is this to quick or improper? Also, it's all about quality to me, since I want a complete backup, with no need for editing or "cutting" out of material or anything from the original media. I'm always going for 100% quality and structure. I had clonedvd2 running for a month or so pretty stable but just recently this has hit. (Zathura, lord of war, and the fog are a couple of titles that I experience this problem). Also on some backups it will get to the layer transiton of the media and pause for a longer than normal time almost like the dvd player(s) are trying to stop, then it will pick up and start to play again about 6 or 7 seconds later. I would greatly appreciate the help, and thank in advance.

@Digit777,
I recommend you change your "preferred speed" to 2.4x or 4x. 2.4 would be a safer bet. CloneDVD 2 will burn at "Max" speed by default. This is undesirable with DVD+R DL especially. If this doesn't work post it here. Note: Be sure you have your screensaver disabled, and any other unneeded programs closed during the back up.

Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

You're burning at 8x, and the discs are rated at 6x, not a good idea, could be your problem, perhaps.

Rule of thumb, never burn at more than than halve the rated speed of the burner, and always use good rated media, which you are. bunnyrip has made a good suggestion.

Another suggestion, perhaps try Imgburn @ www.imgburn.com There have been many good comments on this software by members, on burning DL's with this program. Plus, it is free.

[sytyguy] I will try that suggestion and I was trying it @ 8x since I thought that would work slightly better than the max setting by default of clone. Also, I lowered my speed last night to 6x and I will have to run a couple of test backups. I hear you regarding imgburn, and honestly up to lately I have been having pretty good luck solely with AnyDVD + clonedvd2. I don't remember exactly what title but a couple of weeks back I tried to backup a dvd and I gave me a funky message like with encryption and blank sectors or something, so I was hesistant to go back until I looked into the issue further. Thanx.

@digit777, All of my DL I burn with Imgburn or Decrypter...after I create an ISO image from Decrypter. I burn at 4x and they all play just fine. One thing I started doing was using two single layer disks with CloneDVD 2. I will use one with the movie and menus and the other with special features, extras and menus. They work great and cheaper than DL. Just a thought. I like CloneDVD 2 because you can re-author and keep menus. Have a great day.

Thanks for the info. Interesting idea, never thought of that. I believe I will turn down my burning speed to 4x if I have problems currently. I reduced my burn speed to 6x and did notice that the dvd backup was more stable and looked the same. The only thing that grew was the burn time, but it was worth it.

no problem. You know another thing I noticed was that when I backed up my Star Wars III on DL I also backed it up using two dvds through CloneDvd2 and for some odd reason the single disks looked better than the dual layer. I should explain that I just put the movie on two disks and each had a full menu. I don't know it is kind of strange and it is the only DL that doesn't look as 1:1 copy as do the rest.
Hey happy burning.

Very interesting, but not surprising. Just be a jedi mind trick or something strange.
