With AnyDVD & Clone DVD, I have successfully "BURNED" many Sony movies (Stealth, Zorro 2, Hitch, just to name a few), however, once I have them "BURNED", I can't make a copy from the disc that I just completed. I have gotten several reading errors from CloneDVD, Nero, Shrink & any other DVD copy program.

If I am not mistaken, once burned to your media, its free from any encryptions. I can view them when I play them in my DVD player.

WHY AM I NOT ABLE TO BURN A COPY FROM THE ENCRYPTION FREE DISC I JUST MADE?

gjl2002 is right. Media/burn speed problem. No problems here either but I use Taiyo Yuden and an occasional Verbatim.
Using AnyDVD and clone your discs will be protection and region free. The crc errors on back ups are caused by poor/degrading media and/or dirt/smudges/scratches.
Have you tried DVD Decrypter on these? IMO it's the best one for these type of discs. You must also runs a lens cleaner thru your drive - this can clear up some of the dust on the lens which could help your drive read thru these errors.

I sure remember those dayz. A little birdie (EXPERT) once told me to always burn at half speed, defrag all the time and buy up all the $14.99 Verbatim 50 packs when they go on sale at office max and I would never have that problem.

I use Memorex DVD's w/speed up to 16x. I haven't had any problems whatsoever with other movies. But this is baffling.

I spent about 5 hrs troubleshooting this issue. After many hrs, I found that if I copied the "copied" disc to a DISC IMAGE and then burned DISC IMAGE (from the hard drive) to another Memorex disc that I was successful. Its very baffling.

My understanding of the entire concept is that once you decrypt it and burn to a DVD that the burned DVD was encryption free and could be copied with any DVD copying software.

A ran this test last night.....
Used AnyDVD & CloneDVD to successfully burn THE FOG to my hard drive & to my Memorex DVD. Once burned I was to copy from the DVD just made. I inserted that "encryption free" DVD into computer and used Nero 7, DVD Shrink & Roxio Media Creator 8 to copy. None of the mentioned programs could read the disc thus halting the burning process. However, all mentioned programs would allow me to "save as" DISC IMAGE and then burn from there. I then went back to my hard drive where THE FOG was saved and copied successfully from all programs to a Memorex DVD. The catch to this all is once I have successfully burned to a Memorex DVD in order for me to "copy from the copy" I had to "save as" DISC IMAGE then burn from there.

This seems strange thus why I brought it here......but if I have to do it this way....then so be it. I did the DISC IMAGE thing 5x's last night and didn't have any apparent issues playing the DVD in my player.

Your thoughts?

Over a year ago I had the same problem.
I had to rip to my hard drive and burn from there to get a second copy.
I cured the problem by .
A. Burning at 4X. instead of the 8X I had been using.
B. Throwing the Office Depot brand disk in the trash.
I have not had a problem in a couple thousands burns since making those changes.

Memorex is not highly regarded as quality media as the above explains.

Cheers.

Think Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Maxell (these can be purchased for the same price as memorex).

Thx everyone....
I will start burning at 8x instead of 16x. I don't use crappy media (I dont think). I believe Memorex 16x, 4.7gb (DVD+r) is a good media. Please let me know if that media is not worthy....I trust your opinions.

Also.....I recently used a buy 1 get 1 coupon @ Costco for some TDK DVD+R's (16x, 4.7 gb). So I am sitting on 200 DVD's.....your recommendations for quality media please.

IMO, printable TDKs from Costco are lousy. They pause and freeze on ALL of the movies that I have backed up. Try Fuji Film +R. I've had my best backups with Fuji.

TDK are not on the recommended list.

The recommendations are above, in 9mmruger1's post.

the blanks you have currently are good for nothing more than coasters and perhaps target practice. believe me, not much is more satisfying than 12-gauge buckshot blowing apart crap media.

Sam's Club has a stack of 100 Verbatim....I am on my way to get some. I will pass off the TDK's to the homeless.

Thx for your continued excellence.
You guys are awesome.

Back up folks. I saw

"I inserted that "encryption free" DVD into computer and used Nero 7, DVD Shrink & Roxio Media Creator 8 to copy"

in one of Ponchi's posts.

Conflicting software issues perhaps?

What about "Windows Media Player"? I seem to remember something about DRM being a part of it in the latest versions. Can someone refresh my memory of that? MS is not above placing restrictions on how you use their products. Or those of collaborating monopolistict friends (RIAA & MPAA).

Just some food for thought.

A complete system "tune up" may be in order.

TC

i don't see why everyone is having such a hard time making a backup of thier backup, i use ashampoo and do a copy disk and in about 3min i have a great backup of my backup, other burning programs that work just as well are Nero Blindwrite record now that one is verry picky, but mot of the times it works just fine and also you can use shrink and just do a reauther and you can do a backup like that

it seems like everyone starts with them, then slaps their heads in pain and buys better media...i guess cuz the stores are flooded with them and those little lying S.O.B. shitehead fecknut label designers make them seem so trustworthy.

The January issue of MaximumPC gave them (memorex) top nods for blank media...go figure.
