the only post i could find on this was form 2004 ..so i figured id get a more up to date opion

regardless of price or grade (professional/standard)
and pleade say why you beleive this ...i currently use dvd lab pro because someonr told me it was a really good tool for authoring ..ive only used it for a couple days so before i dedicate a lot of time into learning how to use it i figured id see if there was better

after googling ive read that nero's suite was the best at some site (hard to belive i hated it) and at another i saw adobe encore did it all ..then the next said encore was filed with bugs and youd spend more time dugging than authoring

anyway id like to here what end-users think

Professional:
Sonic Scenarist http://www.sonic.com/products/Professional/Scenarist/quicklook.aspx and DVD Maestro (no longer available, but still one of the top two!)

Others:
Tsunami MPEG DVD Author Pro http://www.tmpg-inc.com/ and DVDLab Pro.

Just my opinion.

The problem I've with DVD-lab Pro is the limited files it can read. Most of my video files are in AVI. I first need to break them into mpv and mpa, quite a bother --or, am I missing something?

I am now using ShowBiz DVD 2. It allows you just about everything, except subtitles.

well i think dvdlab pro still the best

first you can do motion menu that you can't do with other programs

second it fill you up with alot of options and design you can add to your menu if you are creatif

third you have subtitles and anything you love to create on your dvd

it's an easy program, i used it alot and i din't have problem till now. sonic scenarist is good, but you have to work in imagination, it's like you working in dos and not window, u can't see what are you working on it like dvdlab pro. I prefer dvdlab pro, especially he have professional things like (NTSC color( who let you see the color of the menu clear on your NTSC system)

You are probably right. But, ShowBiz let?s you do: (1) motion menu; (2) several menus; (3) Demux your AVI file; (4) adjust the video quality to fit your disk automatically, and (4) do all of it easier than DvdLab Pro.
I suppose if you want to do professional looking videos, and you have the time, DVdLab is better. But, if you just want to put an AVI movie into a dvd quick and easy, ShowBiz is for you.

well the program not gonna make it by magic from AVI to dvd, it's gonna transfer the AVI file into mpeg2, demuxing than copying, but you dont' see it, that's mean it's gonna take longer. i don't like to convert directly from AVI to dvd on a copying program, it's better to convert on a converting program than copying on a copyer program. Nero can copy directly from AVI to dvd but you'll have problem while you watching the movie, it's bouncing and lag alittle. so it's better to convert the movie into mpeg 2 on a program like mpeg encoder or mainconcept, than copy it on dvd using a program like dvdlab pro or showbiz

Well, I too am looking to buy DVD Authoring software. I have looked through afterdawn for a few days, and consulted with some guys on the internet I trust. I am mostly leaning toward Nero 7 Ultra, and DVD Lab Pro. However, I am considering any of the programs listed in the FAQ (of this section of the forum). I also don't know much about the Roxio or Sonic products. Are they good? There are a ton of them too, how do you choose among them?

I am confident that I can learn anything listed as "Home Software", and I might consider some of the "Prossional" section if it's not too complicated and time intensive. I am looking to make DVD's from home video and internet video clips. So I do want to be able to edit well, not just drag and drop DVD compilations. Anything within 250$ is fine.

Can anyone compare/contrast the following programs (with particular attention to Nero Ultra 7 and DVD Lab Pro):
TMPGEnc DVD Author
DVD Movie FactoryExpress
MyDVD
DVD Architect
Nero Ultra Edition
DVD-Lab Pro

well i have both of them, my suggestion is:

If you looking for a program just to edit menu dvds dvdlab pro is better than Nero million times, you have alot of options to create dvds. if you looking for a software not just to create dvds but to copy, audio, data etc, Nero is the best.

if you wanna buy dvdlab pro wait for the new edition DVdlab pro 2 have alot of new stuff

Does anyone use this program? can someone help me 1 on 1 with this?

Id like to make a dvd that has different menues.

1ST Menue:

play all

episodes

2nd menu

it will list the different episodes

then a back to main menu option or continue to next menue option

and so forth until all the episodes i fit on the disc are done.

Can someone help me out with this? Id really appreciate it.

PS. WHEN I put the episdes on the menu, i dont want to see the crappy squares with a bit of the episode on them, i just want the name of the episode and or both so i can click on the title and go to the movie.

signature limitations are lame.

Also, does anyone else want to throw in their two cents on my first post, and compate contrast the different software products out there? Thanks for the help.

hi guys well i have video on my pc ( home video) and i have Nero 7 sonic my dvd le 5 ... its basic cuz i want to do other things and it says to upgrade to deluxe.... anyways i want to edit my home video and say like theirs music on the background i want to kill it and replace it with a new song that i have on my pc like .mp3 , pretty much video editing is what i need. now i know theirs pro and "home edition" like saying how complicated the program is vs noob friendly.

im looking for something good not pro as its just for home videos editing.... i'd like to put my menu and with a with song(s) while i go to sub menu and it says chapters... anyways you guys get the ideal right??? remember not too hard stuff more like auto or easy like....

i say like theirs 3 raitngs good better best... i would like to be in better so it has like quite some stuff from best but its soo easy to understand like if it was good... so better is what im looking for...

for editing i work usually on adobe premiere and for creating the dvd i work on dvdlab pro.

if you want a program not very complicated and do both in the same time you can get the "pinnacle studio 10", it's made for home production, very high quality and not hard to learn.

if you have the IEEE 1394 in your mother board you don't need the card, you need just the software. if not so you need the hardware for capturing. well the price i remebered my brother got the pinnacle studio 9 (software and hardware) for 400$US from 2 years, right now i don't know the prices, go check on www.pinnaclesys.com

PS: don't be lost between upgrade and getting the program

more questions??

For simple video capturing, editing, adding music, transitions, effects, etc., I would recomend you ArcSoft ShowBiz DVD 2, which also lets you do authoring and burning. It has everything in one package. I started with it.
Right now, I am using Sony Vega for editing, and DVD-lab Pro for authoring, but they are a little more complicated and more expensive.

Basic/Fast Rip & Burn: DVD Shrink & Nero
Basic/Fast Build DVD from "downloaded" internet .AVI--Nero Vision
If you have technical problems like audio out of sync- run your .AVI thru VertualDUB first, then Nero it.

If you got video's- Downloaded or home-grown and demand very cool sharp professional looking Menus and features...then you're forced to go first with a MPEG encoder like TMPG..so you can us Higher $$$ End programs like DVDLab Pro, Encore, etc So you can have those fancy menus and special features.

More advanced Rip & Burn...Rebuilder, AnyDVD, DvdFAb

For actual Video Production and Editing--Adobe or AVID..maybe Sony Vegas(above 6--for HD)

Thanx much guy. I use convertxtodvd for my avi's then I Nero express it to dvd. I like CovertXToDvD it seems to do it for me. Sometimes I use winavi then I Nero express it. I was having problems with Winavi v7.5 after using Nero express to burn to dvd my video would come out choppy but the new winavi v7.6 is working fine so far. Thanx for the info I will check it out

Well, right now I'm writing a "moron's" guide to dvd authoring..specifically I'm comparing DVD-Lab Pro (with Menu Maker) and Adobe Encore DVD..I've taken the same .AVI file movie downloaded from the net..I'm the "moron" in this "hands on" "by the seat of your britches" race to see which of these two programs have the easiest "learning curve"...so far DVD-Lab Pro is ahead. But the lack of audio preview has caused it to loose some points, and the integtation of the menu created in Menu Maker didn't magically appear in the assets bin..had to import it as a .psd.

My vote so far is with MediaChance...it's world's ahead of AHEAD's Nero, even TMPG DVD AUTHOR doesn't hold a candle to it, Avid Liquid (pennicle) allows you to capture, edit, and export finished DVD's<<that kind of Software is hard to compare with simple Authoring Software. Be like compareing Final Cut to the rest of these. P.S. I'm not a Mac guy so Final Cut is greek to me.
