Back when I first started burning Dvds DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink were the hottest peices of software to have on your computer but these days everyone is saying that these programs are out of date and not much good anymore. I'm just wondering what today's recommendations are for the average home user who wants to shrink a dvd9 movie to dvd5 size while still maintaining relatively good image quality like DVD Shrink was able to do? I know of several programs that users use but I hear several others finding fault with those programs.

I'm kinda confused here.

Cheers.

@aussie999. yes shrink is not going to be updated but, if you rip your movie with FabDecrypter(free) first or you use anydvd($40)in the background, shrink, because of its speed, is only second to nero recode2.
so again. FabDecrypter to HD/shrink to compress/ImgBurn to burn is a great combination and they are all freeeeeee. Shrink is just too slow for me, tha's all.

P:S: there are not better transcoders than Recode2 and Shrink in terms of quality. Rebuilder which is king, is not a transcoder.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

Both Shrink and DVD Decrypter are still great programs, and although showing their age a bit, they still work with many movies. Shrink is slower compared to the newer programs but still puts out great quality and will compress any movie. Both programs will still rip a majority of movies with no problem, where they have difficulties is with some of the newer protected movies. This is from their lack of updates, but both can be helped along by using third party programs like DVDFab Decrypter to rip, or DVD43 in the background with Shrink to rip. Both of these are free. You can also process newer protected movies through VobBlanker or FixVTS to get rid of the suspect cells and then use Shrink. These programs are also free. If you want pay then use AnyDVD which is a driver that works in the background to break encryption and you can then use Shrink to rip and process. DVD43 does the samething. These two programs still work and I still use them for many projects.
