If you back up a movie, "Waiting" for instance, can you copy the back up? If so, do you run it through shrink again? Or can you do a straight copy to copy?

Hi, I dont think so.. What is hurry?? If you are using clonedvd2 you can copy the same movie many times without going the whole process. Just hit the go button.

There is no need to use Shrink again, your movie is already compressed. You can just do a copy to copy if you have Nero or another program that will do it.

Short answer is yes, you can copy the backup depending on what you used to make the backup--You do NOT need to Shrink it again, but can just make a 1 to 1 copy--You can use Sonic "Record Now" if you have it or Nero or DVD Decrypter (ISO Read then ISO Write)or any number of copying programs--obviously you do not need to decrypt it again. What did you use to burn the DVD?

I USED SHRINK WITH IMAGE BURN, BUT I DIDNT SAVE IMAGE. i'LL TRY COPY TO COPY WITH Nero, THANKS.

That is fine, but you can also use Image Burn again--just ISO Read, then ISO Write--Nero will work too, if you are more comfortable with that--

to make a backup of your backup i use ashampoo or Nero or record now or Blindwrite and just hit disk copy

To make a copy of a back-up I use Alcohol 120% , I love this prog...also copy all my CD's using this too...

Hey all..decided to re-use this existing thread that was similar to the question I had rather than make a new one.
My question.
I am also copying copies. In the beginning (when I first installed my burner a dual layer LG 16X-the standard cheapy at BestBuy) and using Nero I was seeing copy times of 6-8 minutes-tops. I am now experiencing quick copy times (of dvdshrunk DVDs) of 12-20 minutes. Its seems that, depending on the blank media im using the "Used Read Buffer" drops to less than 50% on the little Nero window. I cant seem to find any other issue. I have over a gig of ram a couple hundread gig of HD space a pretty quick processor. Checked that DMA thingy and its set right....and I even upped my virtual memory. The DVD reader I have is supposed to Read at 16X...even if that's an inflated number I still dont get why I was experiencing better times than I now am. If I posted my Nero log...is there anything in there that would stand out?
Maxell DVD-R 16x discs will use 100% of the read buffer and copy in 12-15 minutes. That's my best time right now. Nero says "started copying at 4x.
Any thoughts...
Never attempted any firmware updates on my LG as seems like an extremely complicated process that can damage the drive if done incorrectly.

My burner will read dual layer DVD's at 8x while it reads single layer DVD's at 16x. Those are top speeds which are achieved towards the end of the disc. Have you been backing up a mix of single and dual layer DVD's?

If you post your Nero log, just make sure your serial number is removed from it prior to posting. It should be on the first line of your log. Posting a log will let everyone know which media you are using, if your burner recognizes it, and what firmware you are running. It also tells more info, some of which may be applicable to your situation.

Having updated firmware is important. The firmware contains updated writing strategies and support for new media. While a bad firmware upgrade can render your burner inoperable, there are steps you can take to avoid this. First, disable any antivirus programs, don't multi-task when updating firmware, and don't shut the power off. Follow your manufacturers directions and you should be ok. Most of the firmware horror stories out there are from people cross-flashing burners or using third party "tweaked" firmware.
Also, some media will not burn at 16x despite being marketed as a 16x media.

Writer:HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4163B
I get the fact that the burner can only go as fast as the reader sees and sends it through...but..there's gotta be a way to go faster.

I have used DVDshrink over and over on a copied movie and have never had a problem with the movie.

I use nero express exact copy to make copies of my copies
works fine if you have good media and dont quick copy that will cause errors I wasted a whole spindle trying to quick copy "burn on the fly" best burn speed that I use is 4x
