I am a layperson when it comes to dvd burning software.
I am looking for a good all around cd/dvd burning program.
Here are my needs.
1. make music cds for my car cd player.
2. transfer all my old vhs home movies to dvd
3. small back ups of files and programs on dvd
4. to make dvd of my photo slideshows. (i use photodex gold)
Most of the stuff that came with my computer does not do this.
I use retrospect for my back ups. and I like it
I use IMG for my slideshows.
I used windows media player for my music cds.
I have new in an unopened box a nero 7 ultra.
Would this be a good all around program.
Money is no issue.
I tested the nero demo but it did not burn my slideshow.(img did)

I think you will find Nero7 can do almost anything you want but DO NOT install both Nero and Roxio, they clash with each other.
For your Video you will need some type of Video capture card. This will convert your files to mpeg and then you can burn with Nero.
Your music CDs can also be burned using Nero
Back ups can be done in Nero Recode
Photoslide shows also Nero(not too sure on this one)
Overall Nero is a great burning package.

Yes and no, I have both Nero 7 and Roxio 8 installed on my system and they work perfectly together. I've done this because there are some things Nero can do better and for others roxio is better suited for. The problem/conflict lies with their packet writing software, Nero uses INCD and roxio uses Drag to Disk, they absolutly cannot be both installed on the same system, I prefer roxio's Drag to Disk and have only that installed. So you can enjoy the best of both worlds.

Nero 7.0 can do more, However for a newperson looking to get their feet wet in media burning Roxio worked very wel for me for 6 years. Finally switched to Nero 6 months ago due to 2 reasons, Nero Recode and Nero CD/DVD Speed. Roxio can do one thing that Nero can't do,(Unless I'm sadly mistaken) Roxio can take an .ISO file and compress it to fit 4.7 Gig DVD disk. My 2 cents worth.
