Burning MP4 video (Simple-please help if u can)

Hi!
My dvd player and in car dvd player both accept MP4 video.
Thsi is good coz its good quality and small files.
BUT
When i added the MP4 files to disk it didnt work and didnt recognise the disk.
my main questions are
1) do i have to include the .THM file (thumbnail)
2) do they have to be in a certain folder layout like dvd's?
e.g Video_TS

Data should be fine. What are the specs of the mp4 file though? If it contains AVC it won't work. Also could be that the player doesn't like the disc or the way you burnt it. Make sure you burn as ISO and close it to be safe. Also are you 100% they support mp4 and not just MPEG-4 video in AVI?

I have a MPEG-4 dvd player but does not play mp4's ,I convert mp4 to MPEG-4.
Are you sure it plays mp4?
Also when i burn my movies i dont go to the iso route i use Nero express and either burn a cd-r or a DVD-R data. They play perfect in my Philips dvd player been using it for over a year.

So you burn as UDF then?

mp4 is MPEG-4, mp4 is the official MPEG-4 container and contains MPEG-4 video and MPEG-4 audio as well as MPEG-4 systems (menus, etc.) and MPEG-4 subtitles. Basically everything that is MPEG-4. So you can't really convert from mp4 to MPEG-4. It is already there.

What you would mean on the other hand is DivX/XviD avi's. The only part of which that is MPEG-4 is the video and potentially the audio since mp3 is allowed under MPEG-4 specs. Packed bitstream isn't part of MPEG-4 specs though and neither is storing it in an AVI.

cheers fpr the replies but im still non the wiser.
I have a Tangent dvd player that supports MPEG4.
And my friends in car dvd says the same.
Neither played MP4 for some reason.
Also how come MP4 for the PSP and MP4 normal video is different?

Well most of the time MPEG-4 is used to refer to DivX/XviD/mp4/AC3 avi's, not mp4's.

As for PSP's. Guess you would have to ask Sony. No idea why they couldn't just support standard mp4's instead of requiring modified atoms.
