Just tried DVD shrink today for the first time. Everything was fine, opened disc, backed it up and chose to directly burn it since I have Nero. When I went to play the freshly burned disc the player indicated a disc error and won't play. So, I backed it up again but decided to choose a ISO file output. Software created 5 1G files on my C: root(not sure how to burn them to DVD). So I did it one more time but chose the audio and video_TS file outputs. How do I burn these outputs to DVD so the movie will play? Any ideas why the inital direct burn to disc via Nero failed? Any tips or suggestions much appreciated.
Thanks a lot.

Two things come to mind - the player doesn't like the format used (i.e +/-) or it does not like the media used.
Which blank discs did you use? Do you player accept +/- format?

I just bought the DVD burner- its a NEC ND-3550A. I'm using Memorex DVD +R discs. I believe the player accepts the format- How can I tell for sure?
THanks

i agree with binkie7, sounds like a media issue. search on net for your model of dvd player & see if you can find if it is + and/or -

or burn your back up to a dvd- & see if it works.

Well I think I know the error now - memorex!! One of the worst ones.
Run a blank thru Nero toolkit>info tool - and post back the manufacturer id - it's probably cmc - the pits.
Stick w/ quality media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. In store look for verbatim or made in japan Fuji or Sony.
Also don't burn at max speed.
To check the specs on the player try your manual if it came w/ one or check out this site:

I just checked the disc manufacturer- Ritek R03. I didin't realize the discs can be a problem. I'm off to the store for some Sony's.
Oh, and the burner does accept DVD +r. I'll try again witht he new DVDs and post afterwards.
Thanks

Ritek has not been that good to me but other members here love - depends on your burner.
Make sure your firmware is up to date on your burner. This helps it w/ read/write strategies on media.
Does your dvd player accepts both -/+ formats? Or if your burner supports booktyping you could booktype +r's making them appear as a dvdrom which is almost universally compatible.
Let's know how it turns out! Hopefully good!

I'm not sure what booktyping is. As far as the audio and video_TS files DVD Shrink created, what is the procedure on burning them via Nero? Is there a specific order the files need to be burned? I got the Sony DVDs- I'm ready to test it out but I don't want to re-back up the movie- It's on my HDD as the audio/video_ts files.

All you need to do is burn the video_ts folder in Nero. Here's what you do:
Open nero
Click on Nero Burning Rom - make sure under new compliation dvd is in the drop down
Next highlight dvd video then click 'new'
Now on the right hand side find the folder for the movie and drag it over to the left
Click on the icon for burn (a disc w/ a flame) set your speed here. Til you things things working burn a 4x.
Click on burn
Now make sure the right drive is highlighted and click ok.
You should be burning now!

Sweet- everything worked out fine with the new DVD-R DVDs. Maybe that was the problem the whole time.
Thanks for all the help.
