"Brainwashed liberal ideas".

Can't people have liberal views?

In the UK we are allowed to criticise anyone we want, it is a national pastime. Reason & learned dischord are the way to a truly free society.

I do hope this doesn't start a flame war.

alas, it is the safety valve, cheney was drinking, and richard nixon looks a little bit like a rubber ducky....soooo:

this is great. finally, cheney has gotten caught while trying to kill someone. doesn't everyone love the little coverup that was attempted?

besides (a^2)(b^2)(c^2)(d^2), if this was a democrat who had the hunting accident, you'd be all over bashing him.

Well it seems that you have definitely proven that fact since you have no tolerance for the opinions of others. I know that this is a tech. forum, but I belive that you have posted material in the past that has nothing to do with technology that may have offended some of the female ADers.

But then again, it's just my opinion.

I will bash whoever the hell I wish (not that I was), anywhere I wish. I do not appreciate being told what I can & cannot say & where I can say it. Esp as this is the safety valve.
To stifle free speech is not the way a democracy works.
If you do not wish to engage in conversation, that is fine, just don't tell me what to do.
I am quite outraged at being told what I cannot say. In the UK civil liberties are being eroded as it is, free speech should never be restricted.
I may not agree with what you say, but I will fight to the death for you to be able to say it.
I really think this could turn nasty, so I will PM a mod for it to be closed. It is quite plain that you do not agree with free speech.

Cheney Shooting Victim: Accidents Happen

The hunter shot by Dick Cheney said Friday that "accidents do and will happen" and said he is sorry for all the hullabaloo and scrutiny the incident has brought upon the vice president and his family.

"This past weekend encompassed all of us in a cloud of misfortune and a sadness that is not easy to explain, especially to those who are not familiar with the great sport of quail hunting," said Austin attorney Harry Whittington. "We all assume certain risks in whatever we do ... accidents do and will happen and that's what happened."

He added: "My family and I are deeply sorry for all Vice President Cheney and his family had to go through this week. ...We hope he will continue to come to Texas and seek the relaxation he deserves."

Whittington's appearance in front of a Corpus Christi hospital in Texas was his first since the 78-year-old was accidentally shot in the face, neck and chest by the vice president during a quail-hunting trip last weekend. He did not answer questions.

"I regret I couldn't be here earlier so you could see what a lucky person I am," Whittington told reporters.

Doctors have said in recent days that Whittington is in great spirits and anxious to get out of the hospital. They said Friday that the patient will be released later in the day.

Cheney kept a previously scheduled speech to the Wyoming Legislature on Friday and expected to stay for the weekend at his home there. He got a standing ovation in the Wyoming chamber when he arrived.

Before launching into this predetermined speech, Cheney said the warm welcome was much needed, since it had been a "long week."

"Thankfully, Harry Whittington is on the mend and doing very well," he added.

Whittington told police that the shooting "was just an accident" and reassured investigators alcohol was not involved, according a county sheriff's report released Thursday.

In Texas, "explained foremost there was no alcohol during the hunt and everyone was wearing the proper hunting attire of blaze orange," reported Kenedy County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Gilberto San Miguel Jr.

The county sheriff's office closed its investigation without filing any charges. The department's report supported Cheney's account of the accident.

Cheney told an investigator that he did not see his hunting partner while aiming for a bird. The report included the first public account from Whittington, interviewed from his hospital bed Monday.

Whittington was hit with shotgun pellets in the face, neck and chest. He remained in stable condition in a Corpus Christi hospital after suffering a mild heart attack caused by a shotgun pellet that traveled to his heart.

The sheriff's report said Whittington declined the deputies' request to record the interview because he said his voice was raspy. Before a nurse asked the officers to "hurry up so Mr. Whittington could rest," he repeatedly insisted the shooting "was just an accident" and expressed concern that all the media attention would give hunting in Texas a bad image, the report said.

In Washington, President Bush said critics are drawing "the wrong conclusion about a tragic accident" when they say the delayed disclosure of Cheney's hunting mishap is an indicator of an overly secretive White House.

Commenting about Saturday's accident for the first time, Bush said Thursday that Cheney handled the situation "just fine."

"I'm satisfied with the explanation he gave," Bush said, calling it "strong and powerful."

Bush described Cheney as extremely distraught since he shot Whittington.

"The vice president was involved in a terrible accident and it profoundly affected him," Bush said during a photo opportunity with Colombian President Alvaro Uribe. "Yesterday when he was here in the Oval Office, I saw the deep concern he had about a person who he wounded."

The administration was eager to put to rest a public relations firestorm arising from Cheney's failure to disclose Saturday's accident until the next day. The White House press corps has complained that the White House took too long to put out a statement on the incident, while Democrats have used that controversial delay to fuel their argument that the Bush White House needs more transparency and openness.

Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid of Nevada was among those who used the situation to suggest the administration needs to be less secretive.

And Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska, a Republican and Vietnam war veteran, told The Omaha World-Herald, "If he'd been in the military, he would have learned gun safety."

Cheney told his story in an interview Wednesday with FOX News Channel; it was his only public statement on the accident. Cheney said it was "one of the worst days of my life," while accepting full blame for the accident and defending his decision to delay the public disclosure until the next day.

Although Cheney has a penchant for doing his work outside the public spotlight, the chance that he will have to testify in the CIA leak investigation will keep a focus on the vice president's office.

Cheney raised that possibility in his FOX interview while refusing to comment about whether he authorized his former chief of staff to pass along sensitive prewar data on Iraq to reporters.

His ex-aide, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, is under indictment on charges of perjury, obstruction and lying to the FBI about disclosing the identity of undercover CIA officer Valerie Plame. Libby told a grand jury that he was authorized to leak the information by his superiors, according to court documents.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

dude, it was across the front page of the St. Louis Post! one of the minute details what that cheney had a few beers at lunch just before the incident. and don't give me that bunch of brainwashed bull hooey! i'm constantly open to new information, which i investigate myself, and i leave no possibility out of range. the only brainwashed one here is the closed-minded "conservative" (having to do, ironically, with only political beliefs and not natural resources, money, human life, etc) that won't consider that for one the people he blindly trusts with his fate might be incapable of doing their job, complete morons, or just wrong.

Liberals are not brain-washed. If anything, they are the only way our country will ever progress.

And it doesn't take a liberal to joke about something a member of our government did. Especially if they shot someone, accident or no accident.

the thing with conservatism is that, under it, the same old problems with happen again and again. a progressive movement is required to make any improvement in life. think "slavery," "women's rights," etc. if it weren't for progressivism, we'd still be a third world country.

French Actress Eva Green Is New Bond Girl
NEW YORK ? The new James Bond now has his Bond Girl.

Eva Green, whose screen credits include Bernardo Bertolucci's erotic drama "The Dreamers," will co-star as the enticing Vesper Lynd in "Casino Royale" opposite Daniel Craig.

Craig is making his debut appearance as Bond in the film.

"Eva is one of France's most accomplished young actresses, now receiving international acclaim," producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said Thursday in a statement. "She brings to the complex role of Vesper an exciting combination of enigmatic and seductive beauty."

Danish-born actor Mads Mikkelsen will play Le Chiffre, Bond's nemesis, and Jeffrey Wright ("Syriana," "Basquiat") has joined the cast as Felix Leiter.

Directed by Martin Campbell, "Casino Royale" is expected to be in theaters on Nov. 17.

I am getting really annoyed off with being called "a brainwashed liberal". There is only one person here that is brainwashed. When the heck did I say someone was pissed? Where the hell do you get off slagging people off for speaking their mind.

WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?

I knew this would turn nasty.

You do not get it do you. People are entitled to their opinions, or would you prefer to live in a dictatorship?
Are you serious, or are you just taking the piss? Are you that frightened of someones opinion, so frightened you have to call names? Are you THAT insecure?

I cannot believe that you are so against free speech, I really thought you were more of a man & a person than that.

You cannot even have an adult conversation about it without resorting to swearing & hurling abuse at fellow members.

I have truly learned something today. I am really taken aback with your attitude.

where the hell do you get off calling the liberals brainwashed? who the hell decides whose brainwashed and whose not? man, by opinionated definitions such as what you're implying, aabbccdd, anyone and everyone is brainwashed in every way possible, yourself included. would you please wake the hell up yourself?

*edit*
and i thought conservatives were supposed to be for defending our rights. as pulsar brings up, where's our free speech? if you loved this country so much, aabbccdd, i would think you'd be more for using rights to their full extent, and as i believe that extent is defined as allowable until the point where it inhibits others' abilities to enjoy their rights, you are out of your own while we are nestled in ours.

Hi jim_dandy,

You shouldn't let people get on your nerves and not only cheat yourself of something you enjoy doing, but also prevent the newbies learning from your wisdom.. :-)
