Are you up to date with your firmware? When you say you burned them exactly the same, you mean same speed, same file size, same file source?

Most players(especially older ones) have dreat compatibility with DVD-Rs. Some are quite picky when it comes to burned DVDs, and more with DVD+R. others will not play +R at all. To get a higher compatibility with DVD+R media, you can change the booktype setting to DVD-Rom.

What do you use to burn(what software)? Did you check the burned dvd, it is actually DVD-ROM booktyped? Are you positive that your burner supports bitesetting? You might have to flash with a Lite-on firmware to be able to booktype.

I have read from other posts that there is a difference in DVD quality that can be recognized by where the DVD's are made. Made in Taiwan - generally poor quality. Made in Japan - generally good quality. I have recently discovered that the Sony DVD+R that are made in Japan are actually Taiyo Yuden (professional quality that I normally always buy at Supermediastore.com.) At least this was true of the Sony 50 pks that Staples had on sale a couple of weeks ago for $14.95. I used a program called DVD Identifier which confirmed that these Sony were actually Ty's. I get 100% good results with each and every burn. I have never tried any DVD-R's or DVD+R's made in Taiwan so I can't speak from personal experience about these. I just take the advise of many of the senior members and after dawn addicts in these forums and waste no time or money on anything that they do not recommend. The experience and expertise they share are greatly appreciated by myself and I am sure many others reading their posts. Check where your dvds were manufactured. Maybe that's the answer.

Also Fujiflim +r (Made in japan) Identify as (YUDEN),
These are all I use execpt for Verbatim +r (MCC).
If the media is indeed TY. It can get no better,(Quality wise)
Its more than likely a compatibility issue with your burner.
(Just because the burner is SONY the media is not manufactured by them.)

both alkohol and i use that SAME drive with same firmware...i have a feeling your issues lie with what prog. u used to burn...alkohol is PROOF (by his scans) that burning the YUDEN000T02 with that drive produces great quality playback...i can attest to that too as i burn BOTH DVD-R and DVD+R format Taiyo Yudens using that drive with excellent results~ :)
while i admit that the Sony dru-710a (rebadged Liteon SOHW-1633S) prefers DVD-R format over DVD+R format, that does NOT conclude that it will not burn the DVD+R very well~~ :)
there is def. something "fishy" about you getting excellent results with the DVD-R and not the DVD+R format...
also, since you have BOTH a spindle of the Sony DVD-R and the Sony DVD+R, i'd like to know what the media ID codes are on each of them? are they BOTH Taiyo Yuden made? meaning..MIJ?
docTy~
Recommended Media:
Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

trilight,
Quote: Made in Taiwan - generally poor quality.
There are a couple exceptions to this rule. Verbatim's are made in taiwan and imho are the best media you can buy. Ritek's are also made in taiwan and are good budget media.

ok i figured it out.the sony dvd-r's can be bunred at 6x and they come out fine with no skipping freezing or pixilation.and the sony dvd+r's can be burned no higher than 4x to come out perfect, anything higher than 4x with the +r's will result in skipping freezing and pixilation.
