I bought a spindle of 100 Sony DVD-R MIT at best buy for 30 dollars. I've still got about 10 left but have only had 2 bad disks so far. Would the Sony MIJs have been much better than that?

2 out of 90 at coasters is a horrible rate for me and all 3 of my benqs. 1 out of 400+ is more like it.
On those 2 coasters: What was wrong with them?
Burn error or playback issues?
Sony 1x-8x media is pretty good from both taiwan and japan. I try to get the japanese tys which are on the Plus 1x-8x. The dash sony 1x-8x will code as Sony08D1 or Ty-got in the japanese spindles. The taiwanese dash 1x-8x will code as Sony08D1 also.
30 cents apiece for the taiwanese sony, while the japanese sony are the same price. Bestbuy has them on sale starting today.
It all depends on what burner drive/how fast your burn/keeping the burn from reaching the outer edge/and how much compression you use.
HP a1118x-b/athlon 64-3300+/BenQ 1650 BCDC/LG 8163B/Modded Wii/Epson-R300 and Ty Watershields!!!

Hi,
for mine Sony DVD-R MIT accecore so far it's 0 out of ~45.
btw: if you buy the 25 packs they are accucore SONYs if u buy the 50s they are not- at least at my best buy. and there is a slight color difference in accucore and non accucore even though its probabaly just a new naming for old tech.
yoyoyo,

Am using Dynex 16x burner, always slowest burn speed it will allow which is 4x and try to have at least 80% compression (can get away with less on animated movies). Sometimes I know i get a little too close to the outer edge of disc but havent had any troubles with that so far. The 2 coasters had burn errors. I can live with that 60 cent problem but I will check out bestbuys sale on the MIJs. Thank you for that info.
And the 100 packs are accucore also.

Hi all, SONY 8x-R made MIT or MIJ I have them all over 700 disc currently and used 500 or so over the last 6months "Not a single coaster". Now I have also used the SONY 8x +R which code as Tayo-Yuden and every spindle I have ever own purchased from several retail outlets have given me trouble i.e. out of a 50 spindle I have had back-up success with no more than 25 disc? I say this to make a point that to me there is no difference in where they are manufactured as it pertains to SONY media. Tayo-Yuden has done such a bad job in my experiemce with 8x +R disc that I avoid them like I avoid all cheaply made disc.
I also use Verbatim 8x -R which are also MIT without a single coaster. Now I have recently read that Tayo makes different grades of disc and this may be the culprit as TY may use a lower grade disc for use with SONY? May be it's the +R. I have SONY drives that work fine and the only other burn errors I have experienced are with TDK cmags. MIT or MIJ will never keep me from buying a SONY 8x -R spindle on sale, to me there is no functional difference.

All 11 spindles of the sony 50 pack yudens I picked up at yesterday from Bestbuy says Accucore.
If your spindles don't say accucore, then they have been laying around for a while. Accucore or not, they are still the exact same media, just an advertising gimmick.Great stuff in the 8x speed.

Sounds like burner troubles and not Taiyo Yuden problems. You are definately in the minority here. I don't remember hearing anyone else having Sony/Ty problems.

Well I'm not sure about your bestbuy but mine didnt have crap on sale. They wanted 74.99 for the 100 ct. of sony MITs. I went across the parking lot to compusa and they had the same 100 ct. sony MITs for 29.99 so I bought em. Compusa also had 50 ct. spindles of Sony MIJs for 34.99 but I wasnt about to pay 5$ more for half the discs. Like I said before, I can live with a couple coasters outa every 100. I'll eat that wopping 60 cents.
And also i noticed that these were 1-16X discs and the last 100 pack i bought was 1-8X discs. Do ya think that means i can get away with upping my burn speed from 4X to 8X and still get as good of burns?

@burndout
Scan those 16x and see who makes them. I was thinking it was Ricoh or CMC but I can't remember for sure.
On second thought that may have been the 16x Fuji.
