It might look like this is not the right place to post this thread, but it is actually related to backing up DVDs with DVD shrink.
For the last week (actually right after I managed to back up Stealth, which took forever) I have been noticing that the DVD drive that I use to read DVDs (I have two, the other one is the burner) is taking much longer to analyze and to decrypt DVDs.
Before the whole process had never taken longer than 55 minutes. And cases like these were few, only with DVDs full of extras.
But now whenever I back up any DVD it takes at least one hour (sometimes more than 90 minutes). It even takes that much with older DVDs which only extra feature is the trailer.
I have made sure that there aren?t any other programs running while I do this, especially anti-viruses or other stuff. But nothing else is on.
I have checked in the System tools menu and in the properties tab, and it says that the device is working properly. But it is obvious to me that something is wrong since the speed has decreased quite a bit.
Do you guys know how I can make sure that the drive is actually working the way it should? Any suggestion on what I should do?
Thanks a lot!

Thanks for the quick reply and for the info.
I tried to follow those steps, but when I get into "system Properties" and click on Device Manager, it says: The selected file cannot be found.
I have no idea what can be wrong. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

The drive plays just fine. It just takes much longer to make back ups.
I also re-installed DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter, but it made no difference.

You sure you're doing Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > System > Hardware > Device Manager > IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers > Primary/Secondary IDE channel > Right click one of those channels, Properts > Advanced settings.
Because if you're getting a message saying "Device not found" or something similar, then you may have a major problem, not just a time thing when ripping/burning.
This sounds like a classic PIO/DMA issue. Try again, if you have to. If not, then just uninstall/reinstall the primary/secondary channel.
Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

Mr. Pink,
Yes, I just tried again and it keeps saying that the selected file cannot be found whenever I click on Device Manager. But my computer seems to be working just fine other than the DVD drive taking a little longer than usual.
By the way, I'm not sure I understood what you meant by: classic PIO/DMA issue. Uninstall/reinstall the primary/secondary channel.
Could you please explain? Thanks!

Yes, it is funny, i will put an original dvd in there and it will read it. And hear this, I backed up a few programs (Dvddecrypter, DVD Shrink, VOBBlanker, etc) on CD-R and it read that, but will not read DVD-R's and all the Rom's and Writers can read + and -.
