honestly, both the Playos and MIT Fujifilm are not considered "good quality" media...when burning onto poor quality media, such as the 2 that you have used, even @4x, you will sometimes experience the issues that you are currently having...

best of luck in getting the TYs from ur bestbuys locally, make sure you LOOK for the "made in japan" / "fabrique au japon" on the wrapper before buying them...that is the ONLY way you are going to get Taiyo Yudens, if you get the MIT (made in taiwan) again, you will have gotten DECENT Sony coded media, however, they are NOT Taiyo Yudens....but are still "better" quality than the FUJIFILM and PLAYOs you are currently using..

if its a flip top a cotton bud and alcohol when the laser is cold !
for the older models you can disasemble but a laser cleaning disc is a easier option

when you look at at your laser you will see a small glass "fish eye" thats what you need to clean
in the case of a laser cleaning disk similur to the old vhs cleaners its a disk with a small foam pad and you apply a drop or two and run it on your machine
