Hello all,
I use a popular yet now deceased piece of software. I know it's dead, but I like the ISO read write modes.
I've recently upgraded my motherboard, but I could swear the prog was working OK since then. Now it is giving an ASPI error. ASPIchk does not detect any, and ForceASPI has failed to install one.
I have Nero 7, and toolkit says system ASPI absent, Nero ASPI installed correctly. I see nothing remotely ASPI-like in windows/system.
What can I do to get my old ripper happy?. Or is there another with equivalent to ISO read and write?
Keep it simple, I don't really understand this stuff. I just follow the guides.
Thanks guys,
FW
I find it all a real struggle, but I give it a crack. I appreciate the help I get and I try to help too.

Are you using XP? If you are you do not need to use aspi with this program and it should work fine, unless you have changed the I/O setting to aspi instead of SPTI.
Nero uses its own aspi when it burns. To install aspi you need to extract the zip file to a folder and then click on the install file, it should install itself.

Thanks Arniebear,
SPTI is disabled (greyed out). What other settings would cause this?
I am using XP, by the way. I am sure it was working OK since the new mother board.
When I used ForceASPI it came up with a dos-style box, asked for a restart as expected, but doesn't seem to have installed.
Any ideas?
Thanks
FW

Your SPTI should not be greyed out, even if it was not there it would still be listed in Decrypter. Try uninstalling Decrypter and reinstalling it.
Run the killaspi and then try a reinstall. It is troubling that the SPTI is not there because it is necessary for a number of programs. Because of the lack of it you may have problems with other programs. You stated you upgraded your MB did you reinstall XP at that time?

Thanks for sticking with me,
I've tried reinstalling Decrypter 3.5.4 from (i) a recent download and (ii) an old copy on disk. Same result.
You said to use killaspi then reinstall. Do you mean reinstall aspi (forceaspi) or reinstall Decrypter?
I had a clean XP pro install when the new MB went in, and I'm 99% sure I've used ISO read/write since then. I did reinstall Decrypter prior to the trouble starting because I could not work out why it would vanish as soon as it opened. It turned out it was because I had assigned it low CPU resources at some point and not undone this.
Is it possible I've had a glitch in the Decrypter uninstall/reinstall?
Should I go to the registry and check after uninstall (if so, where, exactly?)?
What is SPTI exactly? What other programs should suffer? DVDFabDecrypter seems ok.
Thanks, top bloke,
FW

Ignore the "what is SPTI?" bit. The link below the replies has helped me out.
