HI all,

I hope someone can give some advice in this. I'm helping a friend & her grandson. The Xbox stopped responding when he attached a LAN cable. Since it was past warranty, he thought he'd open it to blow out dust (hearing about overheating issues). Found nothing of consequence. Checked caps & wires- all looked good.

However, all you get at power up is a few flashes of green which then turns to solid green, tray won't eject, no dashboard (or anything else) onscreen.

I can feel/hear the drive spinning up. When I hit the eject, I can feel the optical going through some sort of motion- trying to open. No clicking or clanking- it all sounds smooth & humming.

I'm a PC person- first try at figuring something like this out. I know that the Xbox is basically a PC "under the hood"- so I'm wondering if there's anything at all I can hope to do to fix this?

Unbelieveably, MS sent the unit back- saying they wouldn't fix it since it was opened? I mean, not fixing for free- maybe? But not at all? Weird- & really poor customer service...

Where to start? I have the torx set out- awaiting your ideas/replies,

Tracy

Nope-

No Xbox screen- nothing.

I'm looking at this & hoping I don't really have to go through all of that?:

I'd like to know if there's any way, without dropping the $50-$100 on an Xbox DVD replacement- to know if it's the drive or BIOS issue?

Thanks

Well,

I've done a little soldering- though nothing this fine (I'll practice on some dead cards I have around here first).

One thing on that tutorial, that I'm unclear on is the "ground points"?

There are a number of small, round dots of solder, in that diagram, that lead to nothing- are these the solder points for ground?

If so, I'm slightly confused as to what the circle around the top of the C6R3 is there for?

See here:

Anyone?

Hmm.... Wierd. After plugging in a LAN cable? Good thing that did not happen to me. I have just plugged one in yesterday. Was the Xbox on when you plugged it in? Maybe the mother board got fried. Sorry that I do not have any better advice. I never seen this problem before.
