I have heard some rumblings that manufacturers may be coming out with different color discs instead of the generic Gold monochromatic.

Anyone know when?

I have also seen Lightscribe disc prices come down significantly over the last few months....Is this cuz no one is buying them or just that all the other media is coming down in price as well?

Thanks in advance to any and all replies....

i have access to vendors.. lacie.. being on of the only companies other than benq or hp (dont think i missed any)..
i have the lacie lightscribe burner, so i asked lacie about this.

the only way they are doing this is.. yes.. the disc themselves are going to be a different color. you still will have the silk-screen different color. but just in a different color.. but still only that one color.

as far as the prices coming down.. they arent all that popular.. but there are ppl that use them.. for companies passing around their portfolio n cd or dvd is much easier.. and they can put the company logo on it.

in the lastest thread about media sales. best buy has the 30 pack of DVD+R lightscribe discs for $25. that is a good price. best buy does normally only have the 10 pack for 14.99. when on sale.. they sale the 10 pack for 7.99. if not on sale, you can always check out wall-mart. they have the same 10 pack for $10.88 (that's regular price) for them.

and only buy the verbatim lighscribe. hp makes them too.. but doc can tell you how much he LOVES HP media.. lol.. :) there may be somebody else that makes it.. but only trust verbatim.. they only do come in (+) format. but i believe that all three of the companies mentioned above have abilites to booktype to dvd rom.. so that would be no issue. a co-worker here has the hp 640i... he looked it up..with a firmware update.. it will booktype.. the lacie i run, again... firmware update.. will also.. if you have the benq.. check their site for the model you have..

ok.. this is long enough.. hope that helps.. peace

Lox,

Awesome info and thanks soo much. I actually called verbatim and they said the new colored discs will be out this summer and that THEY are the ones that make the discs for HP and others (MCC)

Do you like the Lightscribe technology? I will eventually switch over to printable media and buy a new printer but for now I still enjoy the novelty...
