i bought some memorex 16x dvd-r's a while ago and found out the hard way that THEY SUCK, verbatim is by far the best, anyway i was experimenting one day and found out that if you burn at the lowest possible speed that the memorex dvd's turn out just as good as the verbatim dvd's, not sure if it will work for everyone but it might help someone out there who is getting frustrated with cheap media
by the way if your using nero check all the options simulation, determine max speed, and verify data

run that memorex thru dvd decrypter to see the mid.. i know that memorex was using ricoh for the 16x when they first came out.. altho.. i would not put ricoh anywhere near verbatim.. let alone ty.. if you did get the ricoh.. you may have lucked out.

don't make the mistake of assuming that because you're not getting coasters, the media is not bad. The memorex media might burn ok at a slower speed, but that is no guarantee that the discs will be readable in a few months. there is NO substitute for top-quality media.

the only 16x media by memorex that ive seen was made by cmcmag, but i could be wrong. they change vendors faster than rabbits...well u get the picture. burning at the slowest speed is probably the best u can hope for if there cmcmags.

I got a 50 pack of Memosux 16x -R's & they turned out to be Ritek F-1's. I've burned about half of them at 8x & they test out fine for DVD video & data. I won't buy any more when these run out as Memosux loves to use CMC as it's source for discs. I'll go to my 50 pack MIJ Sony's then a 100 pack of MIT Sony's after the Memorex discs are gone. Oh & I love TY too!

Well I still don't trust them. The next pack I bought might turn out to be CMC! Which is why I'm not buying them after this batch is gone. Besides one of my audiobook DVD round robin's was on Memorex CMC coded 16x discs. I could hear the drice speed go up & down while copying both discs to my hard drive. The 8x MIJ Sony DVD-R's I burned the files to don't change speed like that...
I even checked both CMC Memorex discs with Nero's CD-DVD speed & the results didn't look good. Too many speed variations plus the errors were way higher than what I'd like.
On the other hand the Ritek 16x Memorex discs (burned at 8x with my 16x Plextor 716A) tested fairly good. Lots better than the CMC coded discs!

don't get me wrong i love verbatim and MIJ sony it's just they are hard to find in the stores where i live so i try different brands when they are on sale and so far verbatim have caused me the least problems, but as far as i'm concerned i'll never buy memosux again i'll admit the memorex may not be as good as verbatim but they came out as best that can be expected from one of the worst media brands out there

Try to find Maxell, Sony, Fugifilm or Verbatim media in the stores. Thats the best media I can recommend. Doesn't matter if it's MIJ or MIT the media will be fine. MIT Maxell is made by Ritek. Sony MIT seems (by the media code) to be made by Sony. I have used MIT Sony's & I have never had a problem with them.
