what kind of processor do you have, and how much ram do you have? Are you running any other programs in the background while DVD Shrink is running? 20 to 30 mins is pretty quick, my computer which is a Athlon XP 1800 with 1GB of ram takes about 40 mins to encode

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:

How fast is your DVD Drive?
I just finished encoding Weather Man in 14:57 & Constant Gardener in 13:46. You may have have special analysis features enabled which is why it takes so long.

AMD Athlon 64 3800 X2, 1GB RAM, 200GB HDD.

In addition to making sure that deep analysis and the AEC controls are not activated, make sure that DMA is enabled for your drives. If you are in PIO mode you need to change it to DMA via this guide courtesy of alkohol: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038

well I have an older processor, so 40 mins to encode is about right. I still have my old Pioneer 4X burner, so it takes another full 15 mins to burn the dvd on top of that.

It really depends on the compression ratio, higher compression will take longer obviously and lower compression will take less time, but 2 hours is a bit long.

@prestoman

Are you transcoding from your HDD or directly from the disc itself? If you are ripping from the disc it will take longer too, because you are actually performing two tasks at once...ripping and transcoding. If you rip to HDD first and then transcode the times will decrease a little.

Try Control, Alt, Delete; Processes, right click on DVD Shrink, set priority. high. Worked for me as I had slow encoding as well (over 3 hours).
