johnnyd54,
I've been looking at the site you mentioned. I'm definately going to do it. Did you use the 1653S.CS0T.patched-cf-mcled Firmware?
Thanks so much to everyone

Quote: The DVD is brand new. So I don't think it's poor condition. However clone DVD reports that the DVD is dirty. Which isn't the case. I'm beginning to think it's a bad press of the dvd or something.
I consider a bad press to be poor condition. Flaws can't always be seen. I've gotten new DVDs that had factory flaws (a bad press). They would play, but not record.
Why thank us when you continue to do things the way you want and only partially follow sugguestions? You should have either followed alkohol's instructions or mine, yet you persisted in doing it your way. It doesn't appear my help is wanted. G'day and good luck.

Yes I did use the csot and it will burn double layer with the upgrade and do a darn good job if you ask me. Just go to the cdfreaks liteon forum and do a little search and you will find out all you need to know. Good luck -- Johnny

johnnyd54 & L8ter & BroBear,
Johnnyd54: I upgraded my 1213S to the 1653S, as you mentioned, and I now have a DL burner.
L8ter: thanks for the research on my drive.
Brobear: Sorry if I offened you. Despite what you might think I had been following your instructions. After your instructions didn't work I tried something on my own. If doing that offened you, I'm sorry.
BTW: By backup attempt with Blindwrite resulted in a clean burn. The DVD plays in my player, but with green blobs. Oh well. It's got to be a garbage DVD.

Not offended, you should have said "that didn't work". Your not responding to posts made by members (Alkohol and me) who've worked with similar problems on several occasions tends to waste everyone's time. There's usually some method to what we do and suggest. Often a particular step supplies us with info we need to help diagnose the problem. My next suggestion would have been to scan the disc for errors. As Alkohol and I both pointed out, if a sure fire method doesn't work, you're probably looking at a bad press. Seems in this case Alkohol and I were right. Glad to see you finally got to the root of the problem.

For future reference, do a read scan with DVDInfoPro or Nero of the problem disc. You should see bad sectors on the graph corresponding to the problem area on the disc. Knowing what it looks like will help you spot a similar flaw in the future. Then do a scan of a good disc so you can see what a trouble free one looks like for comparison.

@thegisguy Good luck with your drive. I think you will enjoy it as a 1653. By the way I ran up on a 1633 today and guess what it will be before the day is over.
