Hey! I bought these blank DVD+R discs that hold 2 hours worth of movie in Short Play; and 4 hours in EP. I'm just wondering how I make full use of the 4 hours? Is there anything special that I need to do, or should it just automatically work? Thanks :)

Hi Smiles21,
All DVD5 discs are capable of doing that. To get the EP mode, you would have to select that mode as your recording speed when recording a movie in a stand alone recorder. It should have something like record speed/mode or something like that. My panasonic DVDR has the following settings for a DVD5 disc.
1. XP High Quality - 1 hr
2. SP standard play(normal) 2 hrs
3. LP Long Play - 4 hrs
4. EP Extra Long Play - 8 hrs

The only difference is the bit rate they are recorded at. Picture quality starts dropping off once you go beyond 2 hrs. The EP one looks really bad, almost vhs tape type bad. Ive used the LP mode on B&W old movies, and it seems fine.
So, it would depend on what machine you were using, and how it records/changes recording speed.
On a PC, to get 4 standard hours of movie on to a 2 hr size normal DVD5, you would have to shrink those movies to fit. Hours is not the best way to measure if a movie will fit on a DVD5. The size of the movie in GB is what will let you know if you need to shrink or not.
Hope that helps.
