Whew I don't know where to start on this mess, but I'll try.
But please be kind to me ;)
I have a Sony DRU-530A in the PC. Home units are Panasonic SA-HT95 and a Coby-238. I have tried several different DVD-Rs to no avail.
I have a couple of movies on the PC and those are AVI files, with Cucusoft AVI/MPEG to DVD/VCD/SVCD/MPEG Converter Pro I can convert those to MPEG2 or VCD with the program.
But I can't burn the movie to a DVD-R and have it play in either home unit. It will play with Nero Showtime and powerdvd.
I can split the file with Simple File Splitter and then burn the movie onto multiple CD's.
Another friend came over and added Two For The Money to my hard drive, and I have a folder for the movie with a sub folder called Video_TS with 34 files in it - and not a clue how to get those onto a DVD-R or CD's. BUT I had another movie like this and 'did something' and got a file called AVSEQ01.MPG and I was able to split that into 2 files for burning onto 2 CD's. But I didn't write down what I did :(
Maybe I'm a lost cause for making copies of my movies.
I hope someone can shed some light on this for me.
I did copy Nine Lives with Sandra Bullock from my hard drive - but didn't make notes on what/how I did it, but it works in the home units - and I deleted the files afterwards.
So there is a slight hope I can learn this isn't there?
I hope someone here can help me - I know this is totally confusing and I'm so sorry.
Thank you

hello. download dvixtodvd program. after the encoding is finished, it will burn to your dvd. use dvd +r. i was using dvd -r. and movies froze around 1 hour 20 min. or so in the movie!
if the burn doesn't start after the encoding, go find your movie encoded in your hard drive folder and burn it with DVD Shrink 3.2.
i tried it and it work for me.
dvix to dvd program is very easy to use. but you need to know the basic of burning dvds.
good luck

I can only use DVD-Rs in my home units. Yes I do need to learn the basics of burning DVD's - that's why I joined this group ;)
Thanks

ok download dvix to dvd. do a search in the software section convertxtodvd here at the top.
it's pretty rare that a dvd player uses only dvd -r.

DVD Shrink doesn't burn. It works with your burning program. Works best with Nero.
DVD+R's will probably play in your home players, if you Booktype them to be DVD Roms. See here:http://www.k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php
With Shrink open, go to menu at top, and click on "Open", or "Open Disc Image". You should be able to burn to a dvd, whatever movies are on your HD, as long as they are in the dvd format. AVI's will need to be converted first.
Good luck!

Maybe I should have been a little clearer. Our Panasonic SA-HT95 (home theater) plays DVD-R, Video CD, DVD Audio, DVD Video, Audio CD, CR-R/RW and MP3. It does not play DVD-RW, SVCD, SACD, DivX video discs, photo cds.
The Coby-238 says it plays DVD, MP3, CD/CR-R and CDRW.
Thanks - I'll check into that dvix to dvd program.
My husband is just shaking his head over all this ;)

I didn't notice if you said you had Nero or not, but burning AVI (DivX movies)is easy with Nero Vision Express...not the shortest process because the AVI will need to be transcoded to MPEG2 so they are DVD compliant (Choose "Make DVD" then add the AVI files to the project, you can even add a customized menu if you want). A Trial copy can downloaded from Nero. It is well worth the money if you decide to go that way.

Thank you so much - I don't have Nero Vision Express - I do have Nero 6.6.0.13 - it does have Nero Express in it - is that the same thing?
I appreciate your help - I'm saving all this help ;)
Thanks

Quote: I have a folder for the movie with a sub folder called Video_TS with 34 files in it
you should have burned this onto a dvd disk
use either clonedvd2/prassi ones or nero (nero burning rom/dvd-video option)to do this
and with this
Quote: BUT I had another movie like this and 'did something' and got a file called AVSEQ01.MPG
you need to convert it to dvd complaint format, you can use TMPGEnc dvd author for this and you will end up with what you had on the top example..>>> a video ts folder containing vobs etc etc
again, you just burn it onto a dvd disk
