You might want to invest in a DVD burner,as the old one I don't know how much firmware support has to keep up with the new media. But I am not sure about your quetion about VobBlanker: how does that relate to your burner? You can download, install VobBlaner and uninstall it any time you want. Is a free tool.

If 2x is the only thing it will ever burn at then you should definitly get a new one. But check to see if your f/w is up to date before you go out and buy another one. I don't see why you wouldn't want to DL VOBblanker, it's a great, free proggy. It will fix that non-compressable problem.

@daworz

In query to your dvd burner that can only write/burn at 2X, maybe you need to update the firmware for burning performances and media compatibility. However, if you decided to get a new burner, then the choice is yours.

You should definitely get VobBlanker. Why? Because it's FREE, it's fast, it can "cut, blank out" any unwanted junks/craps like FBI Warnings, extras, previews/trailers, director's commentary, etc., so your final VIDEO_TS file is much smaller. Meaning better quality when transcoding with DVD Shrink.

"Not/uncompressable" is the latest junk from ARccOS, "out of memory" is the latest crap from RipGuard, any "invalid data structure" is likely from both with dummy cells, fake pgcs, left over encrypted sectors.

Below are some free tools that you'll need to bypass ARccOS or RipGuard protections.

<> VobBlanker 2.1.0.0 or higher
<> DVDFAB Decrypter 2.9.7.2 or higher
<> DVD Shrink
<> DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn
<> PgcEdit + PSL plugins + FixVTS (more advanced, but it's simple once you've got the rhythm)

Yes... you can backup any new released dvds/movies using the above programs (FREE) smoothly.

<> Method 1 ** use Alkohol's VobBlanker + DVDFAB Decrypter ** <>

<1> rip the movie with DVDFAB Decrypter into your hard drive
<2> PROCESS the VIDEO_TS.IFO file through VobBlanker 2.1.0.0 or higher
<3> import/open the VIDEO_TS file that VobBlanker created and transcode with DVD Shrink as usual
<4> burn your final VIDEO_TS of ISO file with DVD Decrypter, ImgBurn or Nero

<> Method 2 ** DVD Decrypter + PgcEdit + PSL plugins Wizard + FixVTS ** <>

<1> rip the movie with PgcEdit via DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0
<2> have the Wizard "save" the PSL file and "import" into DVD Decrypter
<3> re-rip the movie again via DVD Decrypter
<4> FixVTS to process left over junks or craps
<5> transcode your fresh VIDEO_TS file with DVD Shrink as normal
<6> burn your final VIDEO_TS or ISO file with DVD Decrypter, ImgBurn or Nero

You can replace DVD Shrink with Nero Recode 2 if you wish. That's it.. 100% GUARANTEE to work on any new released or old movies/dvds flawlessly.

Good luck!!

YOu can buy pretty decent burners at newegg.com for as low as 30 bucks. I say shell out $40-60 and you can get some of the best if you but a BenQ or a Liteon and not it's rebadged model.

You definately need a new burner. As to cost and choice of external versus internal it appears internal will always be cheaper but USB external more portable. Just remember have to have an up to date USB 2 card for an external to work. I learned this after getting an external burner as well as new internal. Can go to the forum DVD+/- Drives Forum for advice or info on this issue. Do a lot of research before buying as your needs will dictate what is best for you. Cheap is a relative term. $40 to some is not a lot, but to someone like a student it's a lot. I buy discs in 500 lots but then there are those who can only buy 25 or 50 at a time and every coaster is costly.
Upgrading to larger HD and more RAM will help with ripping and backing up but be careful if you have an older computer as it may end up being cheaper to buy new one than to upgrade an old system.
Good luck and remember most of the people at AD are more than willing to help.

To err is human, to really screw up.....use a computer.
