is it possible to remove security updates from your contro panel and would affect the performance of youe computer

you can remove them yes... if you go to add or remove programs theres a tick box at the top that says "show updates" check that and it will show all of the windows updates you have installed,

however removing them leaves you vulnerable to the exploits the updates were made to patch
