I searched for someone else having this problem to no avail. I am trying to back-up my copy of Disney's Tarzan (1999). I used DVDFab to decrypt, it said finished successfully, so I figured that much worked correctly. Now is where the problem happens. I used DVDShrink w/ Nero, the shrinking went fine when it tries to burn it says write error. O.K. next I tried DVD2one and burn with Nero, still throws up the same write error. I've tried about 2 diffrent types of blank DVD's just incase that was a problem. Thanks for any ideas.

@Burnt-Out
Your best bet is to post the last Nero log - has a lot of useful info.
If using nero6 it can be found here:
program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory.txt
Or for Nero 7
program files>Nero>nero 7>Core>nerohistory.txt.
Just make sure you edit out the serial # - begins w/ 1A

I'll do that as soon as possible, I'm at work right now. The graveyard shift it's a wonderful thing. What do you think about running it through VOB Blanker or is the movie to old for that sort of protection. Thanks again.

I've actually run into a few old movies that have copy protection that wouldn't allow me to rip. It could also be that the disc is in bad shape (scratches, and/or smudges), if the disc is in good shape, then try VOB Blanker, and see what happens...

As far as I can tell the disc is in good shape. It just will not burn no matter which program I use to compress it. DVD2One & DVDShrink both seem to compress fine no errors at all. Just when I try to burn it, Nero starts with the message about burning the Lead-In then it errors out.

As binkie requested post your failed Nero log, if you erroring out in the burn phase it could be other problems. What kind of media are you using, how fast are you burning, is your fw up to date, is your DMA turned on, are you multi-tasking, etc.?

Ok - here's what I can see:
Quote:
Nero Version: 6.6.0.6
Update your Nero to 6.6.0.18 - this version w/ still work w/ shrink.
You can download it here:
http://httpdl2.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe
Quote:
Recorder: ATAPI DVD RW & Connected to MMC as unknown drive with class-nr
Nero's not fully recognizing your drive (make & model) and listing a generic. The update should help this.
Can't find if your firmware is up to date cause of this. What is the make and model?
The firmware may help but:
Quote:
Disc Manufacturer: UME01
Never heard of them - and their not on the 'A list' of media.
They also why your getting this:
Quote:
TA-Status 0x02 (0x01, SCSI_TASTATUS_CHKCOND)
Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)
The drive doesn't like your media.
So your best bet is to switch to Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim and check and see if your firmware is up to date.

Thanks to everyone, especially you binkie7 for all your help. One last question though. My burner is an I/O Magic 16x DVD+ -RW DL with lightscribe. The Nero I use was supplied with the drive and also contains the lightscribe program, If I update Nero will I still have the ability to use the lightscribe program.

In Binkie7's absence I will advise you to do the update, you shouldn't experience any problems using your Lightscribe abilities, Cheers.

Thanks everyone i'm still trying to figure out whats wrong. I updated Nero to ver.6.6.1.4. Nero still dosen't reconize my type of DVD burner. I would update the firmware, but I'm clueless of how to do that. I looked up how to do firmware updates, it said something about finding my id string through Nero info tool, but all it says is "Atapi DVD RW". From what I read on the I/O Magic website it is suppost to tell me something diffrent. On the plus side this movie is the only one I ever had problms with, I've backed up every movie I own no problems. So you win some, you lose some I guess. Anyway, I probaly post more outcomes to my problem, I can't let it beat me. Thanks to everyone again.

If it helps this is my burner:

The string it may be looking for is IDVD16DLS - don't know - I think I/O Magic is the site where you have to be registered to get the firmware but I could be wrong. Plus your drive is either made by Philips-BenQ or Lite-On and I can't find which model it would be for either one to know whcih firmware.
If you want to auto burn w/ shrink you'll need to downgrade to 6.6.0.18. Uninstall the current version, run the Nero clean tool then install 6.6.0.18 from the link above.
Your best bet is too switch the media to Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim - problems will be minimal if any!

If you compress it with DVD Shrink why not use shrink to burn it also
as I have used shrink and have not had any problems with the program doing just that.

DVD Shrink does not burn, it just compresses and rips. You need another program like Nero, DVD Decrypter or CopyToDVD which intergrate with Shrink and burn the file.

Well Ladies & Gents, through all your excellent help, I finally got Tarzan to burn. Not sure if it was the updated Nero or the diffrent type of dvd's I used, but anyway the Thanks goes to the people who kept responding to a noob like myself.

@gamename: Thanks for the info on the firmware update, I'll check into that. Thanks again.
