hehe, thank you for the kind gesture, but, it's not necessary as i live in the U.S. while all you boys are in the UK :) the shipping cost alone would cost more than the media is worth in and of itself~ :P i'll take your word on it and believe them to be of very good quality, as Taiyo Yuden discs naturally are...

Hi All,

Thought I would just update you all.

I emailed SVP to ask if they are going to be getting anymore Verbatim (Taiyo Yuden) (8x) DVD-R in.

The reply was that their supplier still cannot get any of these so they will be removing them from the site and have ordered the x16 as a replacement (think TYG03 dye), hopefully to be in within next week.

Will this effect the backing up of movies considering i only burn at x4 or should I not worry? I'm thinking not worry but just wanted to check.

Should really think of something to put here.

Creaky,

Are you saying you wouldn't go for the TYG03 version 16 speed?

Should really think of something to put here.

i'd have a look thru some of the Doc's replies as i can't quite remember his take on the TYG03 discs, but i'm a bit tied up at the mo...

if they're any good i could go for those but if there's 8x that i can get i guess i'll pick those over 16x

i seem to remember reading the TYG03 (16x) discs tend to loose their quality alot quicker than TYG02 8x discs.. i may be wrong but i'm sure that's correct. maybe the D.O.C can no doubtably confirm!

@ AxioStorm, how are those prinatble panisonic TY's going? i know if i get some i'll end up unable to resist the temptation to go out and buy a disc printer! ha, feck it, i've jst ordered 2 25 tubs! *immediately starts browsing for a disc printer*

@ gurnard, lol the amount of times i've tried to blag my way into makro's to get cheap media! unbelievable prices in that place! let us know if you got the boot closed on your car after a healthy clear out of verb TY's from there!!

p.s what's this disc 'reader' to check for disc authenticy you guys chat of?

hi my UK buddies,

to creaky, piggyot, gurnard, tayhigh : in regards to the TYG03s, HONESTLY, in MY opinion and MY opinion alone, they are not as good as the TYG02s...i'm very serious about that...to be completely honest with you fellas, i haven't had a WHOLE lot of experience with the TYG03s (16x rated DVD-R format), i've only used about 400 or so; this pales in comparison to the experience i have with both the 4x DVD-R TYG01s and the 8x DVD-R TYG02s, and after quite a few tests, i have determined, AT LEAST FOR ME PERSONALLY, quality scans burning the TYG03s @8x is WORSE than burning the TYG02s @8x...same burn speed, different results just because of the slightly diff. variation in media dye~ :) if i were any of you and looking to re-vamp my stock of DVD-R format media, i would suggest sticking with the TYG02s (8x DVD-R taiyo yuden produced media, under the verbatim label-which is apparently out of stock now- or the panasonic brand or simply the unbranded genuine taiyo yudens, which i know is significantly higher in price) :)

i know our various levels of success might vary greatly between our individual setups, but on all 3 computers i have up and running using Benq, Sony, Pioneer, Liteon, and Nec burners, every single one of them appreciates the TYG02s over the TYG03s, why this is the case, i don't know...this conclusion is based on Nero cd-dvd speed quality scans post burn on these various burners, checked on either my benq 1640 or my liteon drives for consistency~ :)

while my TYG03s are not "horrible/rubbish" scans, they don't hold a candle to my 8x DVD-R TYG02s burned at the SAME SPEED, which is always @8x in ALL my various burners...i even tried speeding up the burn speed on the TYG03s, a few @12x and a few @16x, those scores proved even WORSE than my TYG03s burned @8x...a few of my burners won't even allow me to burn slower @4x, but, i have a gut feeling that the scans burning @4x on 16x rated media will be VERY poor, especially using my benq 1640...as others and i have noticed, when burning using the benq 1640, NEVER BURN SLOW, these slower burns have consistently given MOST of us that use the benq 1640 very poor scans @2x/@4x/@6x, while the BEST scans were burned @8x or even @12x on Verbatim MCC004 16x rated DVD+R format~ :) obviously, this is using the DVD+R format, not the DVD-R that you guys intend on using, so, that was a pretty bad example..sorry, it's 2:30am here and i've had too much Grey Goose vodka tonight~ :P LOL

anyways, despite being somewhat inebriated at this point, i still know what i'm talking about...please consider using/sticking with the TYG02s, if your experiences even remotely follow my own experiences with these 2 medias in question, you will get better results with the 8x rated DVD-R over the 16x rated DVD-R, both made by Taiyo Yudens... :)

once i realized the difference between the two rated speeds, i can tell you that i have YET to ever purchase any more TYG03s again, this is naturally from MY OWN EXPERIENCE, yours may vary, but my opinion of it, stick with the TYG02s...ok, i'm babbling now...nitey nite...time to hit the sack for me

docTy~

cheers boyS!

yes, i believe so....ALL GENUINE taiyo yuden manufactured media will be "made in japan", even though Verbatim is usually regarded as a "made in taiwan" company, the discs/media that Taiyo Yuden produces for them, under the Verbatim label, WILL BE MADE IN JAPAN

@ creaky hi :)
my fault, sorry you had a wasted trip to makro
i bought 100 16x+r...50 8x-r...25 4x+rw and 100 cd-r
my buddy went of with the bill, so from memory, i saved about 2p a disc compared to svp.
time and travel did'nt come into the equation because my mate was going anyway, if it had then they would have been a lot dearer.
so, will be doing my shopping from svp as per normal (unless of course my bud goes again)
