Hi. I'm a serious movie buff, and since there are so many great movies out there, this obsession that I have (backing up the movies to my HD) is getting expensive. Nevertheless, I was thinking that my hobby will be deeply influenced by the release of the HD-DVD. Here is where my question comes.

If you had 3 TiB of storage in your PC, how would you back up your DVD's?

Regarding the DVD, the movie would have to be uncompressed, since Ive compared uncompressed DVD's with compressed DVD's and am able to tell the difference. The menus, well I really dont care about them, and some are in the 100's (mega bytes). This space adds up (even with 3TiB). The extras could be compressed. Which program should I use to compress some parts of a DVD but leave the DVD structure (ie menus, chapter access, etc). Could I also remove some of the languages and even compress the audio and still be in sync with the movie?

Hi.

One of the best (free) programs for doing what you want is DVDShrink. It allows you to reduce the quality of the menus, remove any audio tracks and subtitles that you don't want and compress the extras!

I use DVDShrink + AnyDVD to backup my movies, and never have any problems...
