Check the media forum every week for the best deals on the best media. Make sure you read them carefully and you'll see most getting top of the line media usually $14.99 for a 50 pack at most.

Glad you figured it out early though and only had 15 spares. Most buy 100 and have a much more costly learning experience.

The following list is in preference order. The best discs are near the top of the list. The discs at
the bottom of the list are suitable only for a landfill.

Almost flawless burns with 95-100% reliable results:
PVC = Pioneer = (-R)(-RW)
MXLRG01, MXLRG02 = Maxell = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
MCC = Mitsubishi Chemicals = (-R)<-----------------VERBATIM MY CHOICE #1
TDKG02 = TDK Corp = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
TAIYOYUDEN or YUDEN = Taiyo Yuden = (-R)<--------------FUJIFILM (made in japan) MY CHOICE #2

Most memorex are CMC manufactured and are BOTTOM OF THE BARREL landfill material.

Run dvd identifier on your media and see if they are indeed sucky
CMC mag and get some high grade media.

Taiyo Yuden and or Verbatim is the top choice.

make sure your firmware is up to date
burn on a clean machine without other programs running
burn at 4x or 8x depending on your setup
using good programs helps to, CloneDVD 2 with AnyDVD is my choice

I remember buying a 5 pack from walmart when i first started out. They burned pretty well and did playback fine. After discovering AD,I have been re-burning all those movies with Sony (MIJ), Verbs, and have not looked back.
