I keep hearing many negative things about using adhesive dvd labels on discs. ( which I use )

I'm thinking about getting a printer strictly for just printing imagages onto inkjet printable dvds.

What's a good printer for under $100 US dollars.

Also I want to able to download images from cdcover.cc, then edit/resize image to fit perfectly onto disc.
(which I also currently do )

I currently use MediaFace4 software to edit image onto adhesive discs, using MediaFace4 I can make image fit perfecty onto label.

Are there any printers that will still allow me to do that ??

I 've heard & seen that the Epson R series......is good for under $100 dollars.

Any suggestions, or opinions would be highly appreciated.

Myself and my dad both have the epson r-200 stylus printers. These are very good printers and can be had for $80-$100 at most office supply stores, and even sams club. The r-200 is being replaced in favor of the r-220,but same specs so you may be able to find them on clearance at a local store for $50 or so!Nothing fancy on this printer, but it does a phenomenal job on the outer full size case covers as well as regular pictures. The photo and regular paper feed is excellent, unlike some lexmark printers I have had.

The only negative is that most of the white inkjet printable media is a satin finish. Some peeps spray a lacquer like krylon on them to shine them up.The darker disc covers turn out better than the lighter ones, for me.

The R-300 series: 300/320/340 has the same print specs, just a few bells and whistles extra. These run about $140. They come with a card reader and a view screen. It all depends on what features you want.

These all come with epson print cd software which you'll be able to stretch out your disc covers if they are not a perfect size. This is simple, just click the square blocks and drag them over the circle. You'll have different sizes for reg hubs and full hubs and those settings are simple.
All my covers are downloaded from sites like covers.to. I sometimes have to resize the disc covers, but the outer jacket covers look better than original.

The best feature of these printers is the 6 individual ink cartridges. You can buy generic ink from private.abacus 24-7 for $19 a set. Take those empties back to staples and get $3 vouchers per cartridge so the ink is almost free. This is quality ink,for a heck of a lot cheaper than the $60 a set of ink at staples/office depot/etc.

saugmon

Thanks for the input. I will only use this printer for printing directly onto disc only.

I already have an HP, that I'll use for every other printing needs I have.

So w/ the Epson software, you can resize images to fit onto dics perfectly?

Just like I do using MediaFace 4, right ?

I second saugmon's suggestion. I have the R200 also, and love it! I don't know how I ever got along without it!
Good luck!

I don't know about media force4. The epson print cd is very easy.

It's almost identical to both my light scribe labeling programs of sonic express labeler and surething easy labeler4.

The settings are easy, but there are different inkjet printables out there: Reg hub and Full hub. I prefer the full hub. You'll have to change the size settings. I do prefer the full hubs. I also want to try some shiny injet printables.

After finding out how well these printers perform and how cheap you can get the ink cartridges, you may retire that HP printer.

I know you can get the r-200 at sams club for around $80. Keep an eye out at Office Depot/Staples/Best buy/and Office max. I picked my dad up the r-200 for $50 at staples on clearance. There's also re-furbished printers on the web.

My r-200 has taken a licking. Got thrown across the room by my ex-wife,broken exit tray, but she still prints like day 1.

I have no issues with my full hub verbatim and maxells. Perfect playback on my stand alones.Much safer than sticker labels.

The Epson Printers are great. I have an R200 and an R220. The R220 is the newer replacement to the R200. The only differences I can see other than the silver top lid is that the inner hub settings are lower in that it goes down to 18mm instead of 20mm as on the R200. The feed tray is also slightly different. The edge is not the thin wafer plastic as on the R200. I was looking for inks initally for my R200 and discovered the R220 was not much more than the six ink pack sold at Sam's. For under $30.00 more I picked up another printer six inkjet cartridges included. Now, Abacus has the replacement inks for these printers for much less as mentioned in an eariler post. Stay clear of stick on printed labels. They are probably better used on CD's but totally useless if you have one of these printers. I have used Verbatim inkjet hub printable discs, as well as Prodisc hub printables. Both have been excellent although I must say that the Prodisc's have a slightly smoother print surface and the outter edge print area is smaller allowing for a few millimeters more of space to the edge similar to original for easier print cover setups. The Epson print software that comes with the printer is easy to use. For full DVD jackets I use Microsoft Publisher with a custom template. I have tried many like Acoustica Cd label maker, Nero Cover Designer etc. When it comes to printable covers - Cd covers, Covers To, and Free Covers.net are the covers of choice that I use.

I also have an HP 1210v all-in-one. When I've tried to print a dvd cover insert with it, about a quarter inch gets cut off. So, I use the HP for scanning more than printing. I'll bet also, when you get the Epson, and see how well it prints, and how cheap it prints, you'll not use the HP much.

Ditto once again on the R200. Great printer for both discs and covers (using Epson Glossy Photo Paper). Another tip for getting very high quality disc images...generetic.org. Lots of top quality artwork there, most of it custom-made by people who do a much better job than the studios. The downside is you need to be a member, which means either passing muster as a cover designer yourself and uploading stuff or paying a very reasonable membership fee (like I did). Also, hirescovers.com has great stuff. The sites mentioned above are hit or miss, and most of what they have are merely low-res scans. Just my two cents.

Here's the place I go and it is free!!!!. If they don't have the disc or case cover, then I have a heck of a time finding them anywhere else:

http://covers.to/index.php

I go for the highest resolutions, and some of those covers are over 3+ mbs in size. Very nice covers.

@dabig25,

Well, they're basically the same printer, with the R220 replacing the discontinued R200. Depends on whether you're the sort that likes to have the most recent model number or the sort that likes getting a deal on a close out. Personally I'd look for a great deal on an R200 and save yourself some dough.

BTW, if anyone wants a brand-new R220 (yes, new, unopened, etc. for $80, shipped, please message me and we could make direct arrangements using PayPal. I got one recently for a decent price with a rebate and don't actually need the printer. To get an idea of what they go for check this link: http://www.pricegrabber.com/p__Epson_Stlyus_R220_Photo_Inkjet_Pri...

OKIE: Did you mean me?

If so:here's where I get mine:
http://private.abacus24-7.com/driver.aspx?topic=compatibility&com...

They specialize in Epson and Canon ink. I tried looking up some lexmark ink there and they were more expensive. HP ink may be the same way?

If not: Oh well. Anybody else needing any quality epson ink, there's the link.

Wow

You can get all 6 ink packs for under $20 ?, for the epson R200 ?.

That's cheap, HP ink is expensive-even the off brands.

Also the R200 & R220 print the same way ?

If they do, the R200 sounds better money wise.

Yes, they print the same way. They are basically the same printer. The R220 is the newer version (new year model) of the R200.
The Abacus inks come to $21.80 with shipping, if I remember correctly. That's the only ink I use now. It looks as good, and lasts as long as the original Epson ink. Enjoy!
Good luck!

It all depends on what format you use.

I use only the plus format and booktype them to dvd-rom. I purchase through stores like Walmart and Office Depot. I only buy the japanese hitachi +8x and the Verbatim +8x full hub inkjet printables. You gotta watch those labels for those maxells.Last purchase, walmart had the taiwanese spindles of +8x maxell.I skipped over them, and founds a japanese spindle.

Now if you prefer the dash, there's lots of deals for them. For some odd reason, the dash format is a heck of a lot cheaper than the plus format on websites like rima/meritline/and supermediastore.com.

I prefer the look of full hub inkjet printables.I'd like to try shiny inkjet printables, but shipping problems keep me from ordering off the web.

You can get those dash printable a heck of a lot cheaper on web stores like rima/meritline/americal/and supermediastore.com.

I still don't know why the dash is cheaper than the plus, but go to any walmart/staples/Office depot/etc: They have the same price for either format of regular or inkjet printable. There's a conspiracy a brewing! LOL
