Currently burning a single layer backup using DVD-R. Will play fine on PC but when I put it in my DVD player it won't.
In the DVD player it will go to the title menu, the menu options work (set up, scene select). But if I press play it pauses like it's going to, but just jumps back to the title menu.
Anyone know what is going on?

Sorry, the noob is starting to show huh?
Have attempted using ImgBurn, DVD Decrypter, and Nero. All with the same results. Currently using TDK discs with a HP 740e burner.

It could be your media, download DVDInfoPro here, http://www.DVDInfoPro.com to identify your media, and let us know what it says.

Use Quality Media; avoid Memorex-CMC, get the good "stuff": Taiyo Yuden, Sony, Verbatim, Ricoh or other top name products.

Good luck,

Rich

What movie are you doing, try to rip with DVDFab Decrypter instead of DVD Decrypter and then use Shrink. This could be a protection problem.

With DVD Decrypter, in ISO write mode it will tell your discs ID code.

Actually, it more than likely is the media. Perhaps your DVD player cannot properly play -R media. Try a +R DVD. Best thing to do is booktype your media to DVD-ROM, but you can only do that with +R discs, and your burner must have the capability to booktype.

Also, since he didn't mention any errors when ripping, I assumed there was no encryption problem(s).

@cyprusrom

I didn't know that about Decrypter. Is that displayed in the log, which I have never had the need to look at?

Best regards,

Rich

No. Just put a blank media in your burner and follow the screen:

DVD Decrypter can also tell you what is your current firmware as you can see, and also can tell you what kind of writing media your burner supports(the firmware is also displayed on the same page with Media ID Code).

Hmmm, that's great. I guess I have never seen that, probably cuz I never do a ISO write, but good to know. I always do a file mode. I was aware of the other items.

Thanks,

Rich

Ok, went and bought some Verbatim DVD+R's and a Plextor PX-740A (everybody seems to regard the Plexor's highly)
Still having the same problem.
Does anyone know how to change the booktype for the Plextor drive. ImgBurn will only let me change the booktype for a BenQ drive. When I select it for the Plextor drive it says "Unknown (Failed!) Nero doesn't even present the option. WTF?

Found a fix. Ripped the files off the nonworking disc and re-burned as DVD files. No more title menu problems.
Was able to change the booktype through Nero's CD-DVD Speed. Does that mean that those book setting will only work using Nero, or does it change the setting for the drive as a whole?

A Plex 740a is a rebadged BenQ dl DVDInfo Pro this program will recognize the drive as BenQ and you can set the booktype in it and forget it. The program will allow you to booktype in all programs. I know this works because this is how I booktyped with this drive. Make sure you dl the free version.
