For some reason I just started getting an error when I try to burn a disc. I had a problem like this about six months ago and Creaky determined the problem was the media I was using. I Changed to Verbatim and no more problems. The firmware for my Micro Advantage burner should be up to date, A080. I have included a error report, can someone please help!

Also if your micro is aopen which a080 firmware seems to say it is they are up to a110 now.

Where can I download the latest firmware, A110? Trying with DVD Decrypter I get A060 and for some reason I can't get on Micro Advantage website.

The only place I know of with the a110 version is aopen site. You will need to know what version of the drive micro used as oem to know what to use. I know they where using 2 and for one a080 is the newest out yet. For the other that used a080 newer a110 is out but may not work for yours. If decrypter is reporting a060 as only known I would say dont try a110 until more info is out about it.

You can try not to burn so close to the edge, 4465Mb is too much. Also, take the speed down to X4 and see how it works.

A Nero upgrade is available:

I did some digging about your drive. It seems you will for sure want to find out which drive they used from aopen for any further updates of the firmware. There site reports they closed the doors on dec 23 for good. Look here

6.3.1.17 may or may not update past 6.3.1.25. This is where the major upgrade came in. It can update for free to 1.25 but may be a cost for past that.

Heres what is said about this error

90% of the time this type of error message is caused by poor media, poor power to the recorder, or an optical head needing cleaning, or a drive needing to be serviced.

But it's only 90% of the time. On a rare occasion I've seen this caused by driver conflicts. Either from other software, or drivers for the IDE Controller.

Old firmware on the recorder - Go to the recorder MFG's website to obtain the latest firmware for your recorder. (You may be able to obtain it from this link as well: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php)

Poor media - Try more than one brand of media. For example: TDK, Verbatim, Imation, Yamaha, HP, etc.

Poor IDE cable or incorrect cable - For higher end recorders these days if you use the 40pin cable you can have all sorts of unusual symptoms. It would be best to use an ATA-133 80 wire cable.

Driver conflicts - If you have or had another CD recording software installed on your system, its drivers could be conflicting with our software. This is rare for this symptom, but it does occur. Uninstall any other recording software and make sure all its drivers have been removed with it. Then reinstall Nero and make sure to use the latest version we have posted on our website.

Defective recorder - The optical head on your recorder may need cleaning or servicing. Or it's possible the circuit board on your recorder has an open coil or blown diode or resistor. Any of these could cause the error. Only solution would be to send the drive in for service to the recorder manufacturer

No problem. Just getting the info out there. The 1.25 update is here

http://www.nero.com/nero6/enu/Updates_prev.html

Or you can give 6.6.0.18 a shot. 6.6 was a free update to 6.3 that was purchased from nero via there web site. So it may be free fo you and is for many. If not I would say dont spend $ on upgrade to 6.6 just use the demo until they get 7 working for most users as good as it works for me. The upgrade will cost about the same.

hey, glad you remembered me :)

just stumbled on this thread while looking for clues for another thread, and found the problem. it's media related, in that the burner's firmware can't recognise the discs -
Quote:
Recorder: 16X8 DVD DUAL, Media type: DVD+R
. this is similar to what you should see -
Quote:
Recorder: HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4082N, Media type: DVD-R
Disc Manufacturer: TYG02 -
Disc Application Code: 64, Disc Physical Code: 193
- ie a 3line paragraph when the firmware's up to date.

most drives' firmware should cater for Verbatim (top notch discs), maybe you've got 16x discs (possibly?, i'm guessing) and the firmware doesn't cater for them cus they're too new ?...

Well I have 8X and 16X verbatim discs. I have been using both for months with no problems. All of a sudden a couple weeks ago I started getting the burn error.

a-ha, as i say, i suspect the 16x discs are the ones giving problems, ie i'm guessing that those 16x discs aren't catered for in your firmware ie they are probably too new for the firmware to understand/recognise hence not working

Actually I am having problems with both the 8X and 16X. Also, just to add, they both were working fine up until a couple weeks ago.

all i can suggest at this point (aside from buying a decent dvd burner, oh and ps i think Micro Advantage have stopped providing firmware anyway)... is to provide some disc info like we did in your thread from last summer - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/223584

If I'm not able to update firmware anymore then I guess it's best to get another burner, don't you think? What are some good burners?

i haven't personally been keeping up with the latest threads for the last few weeks so if i were you i'd scan the first page of this forum - http://forums.afterdawn.com/forum_view.cfm/77 and look for replies from saugmon, kivory666 and too many more to mention, they know their burners...
