I have completed LOADS of backups successfully, so I'm not a newbie, but I'm having a lot of trouble with these movies. I've searched and found topics but they don't help, or do not quite describe my problem. I've recently had to do a complete format/reinstall on my PC but tested an older DVD that I know I've backed up successfully and it worked... so I'm thinking the problem is not with my software or settings.

I've tried DVD Decrypter (File mode) along with Nero Recode 2 as well as DVDFab Decrypter and VOBBlanker + Nero Recode 2, and had no success. I've followed alkohol's guide for movies such as Fog and gotten them to work. I can create an image but when I attempt to test the DVD it will only play the menu and not play any movie, and in the case of Windows Media Player, it tells me that the total running time is something like maybe 13 minutes and after a while stops responding.

I've checked all programs for settings that may need to be changed from default and nothing jumps out at me. After tons of succesful backups, these three movies are killing me. Usually VOBBlanker solves the problem, but nothing is working.

I'll offer any other information needed. If anyone has any ideas on settings I need to modify or a different method to try, please let me know.

Well what kind of error messages are you getting?

If you follow everything listed, these movies shouldn't cause any problems. I've backed these up with no issues.

That's the thing, really. I'm getting no errors.

I do these like every other movie. I can rip, recode, and burn with no errors. But when I play the movie, I get the menu screen, select "Play Movie"... go through the "content removed" screens, but don't get to a movie. It seems that the whole disc is only a few minutes long and not a full movie length.

If I attempt to say, play the Saw 2 image with ImageDrive through Windows Media player, after a while it'll just crash/not respond.

Like I said, I had to re-install all of my software, though I have the latest DVD Decrypter, DVDFab and VOBBlanker. To my knowledge it's all set up correct. I have Nero Ultra 6, and Nero Recode 2. Both have recently been updated with patches from the Nero website, that's the only change I've made. I tested with Spiderman and was able to make a successful burn. Before my re-install though, I never had trouble with any backups, and I've probably made 200.

Sorry about double posting:

Basically I've found that when I try to play an image before burning it to DVD, for Domino, I get no menu and everything is Video Content removed, and most all of the titles are greyed out. It's also only like 13 minutes long. I did NOT remove the main title movie, I only removed the extras.

I used DVD Decrypter and then ran a "Process" with VOBBlanker and then recoded that with Recode 2...

This happens with Domino, Saw 2 and Dark Water. Any help?

If it's the discs, just ask for new ones from wherever you got them from.

That's a pretty big coincidence if all three movies are bad presses or whatever... considering I've never had a problem with a backing up an original DVD, even dirty or scratched discs.

Since I saw mixed opinions on the net, regarding ease of backup, I leaned toward the fact that each of these probably had lots of junk cells in them that needed to be blanked or some other special method for backup.

@ss2trunks

You will need more than Shrink to get through Dark Waters it has ARccOS and Puppetlock protection on it. Shrink alone won't touch it, try DVDFab Decrypter and then Shrink, if that does not do it then run the file through VobBlanker. You can get the sw here

u said ur removing the extras... is that because the movie s too big for the disk because if so u could try using DVD Shrink. u dont have to remove any thing u can just shrink every thing and then theres no chance of u cuting out the wrong thing. well this is wat i use and ive had no problems so try it and if it doesnt work let me/us no

I always remove the extras. I know Shrink will "resize" the contents to fit a DVD-5, however I use Nero Recode 2. Never done me wrong.

However, after posting in the Nero forum, I found my problem regarding why I couldn't back up. I am now backing up flawlessly again. Stupid question mark on my SM Bus Controller in Device Manager will pretty much fark things up.

Just did Zathura and Two for the Money. Working on Waiting and Yours, Mine and Ours. I hate getting behind on DVD's due to technical difficulties... especially with a 2 year old around who likes to touch stuff. Now that I got things fixed, I have to go back and revisit Domino, Saw 2, and Dark Water... Tomorrow I'm buying Jarhead and hopefully I won't run into any problems with that DVD now that things are running smoothly again.

Lesson Learned: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I cannot upgrade Nero or Recode at all. Running Nero Ultra 6.6 and Recode 2 (NVE 2.1.2.0) however old these versions may be, there is NOT a single old or new patch that will work without crashing or invalid backups.

Second Lesson Learned: Nero Ultra 6.6 hates WinXP Service Pack 2. Therefore, if you want to get around this issue, uninstall Sp2 then uninstall Nero 6.6, run clean tool, install Nero 6.6, then install SP2 afterwards. As long as Nero is installed BEFORE SP2, and not after, it doesn't cause compatibility issues for some reason.

I think you're talking through your hat, I have installed the Nero versions you mention AFTER SP2 was installed without problems you mention.

You were given sound advice in the Nero forum but you decided to ignore it and criticise people who were trying to help you.

My bad, I'm talking about 6.0, and if you do a Google search on Nero and WinXP SP2, you'll find that there ARE problems, and you either will have issues burning, devices not recognized, or you have to update via a patch.

Sound advice, depends I guess. At that moment in time, those replies seemed like people weren't reading the whole post or caring to respond to the actual problem. I'm not going to get into a shouting match with you. I've since fixed my own problem.

There IS a problem with Nero 6 and SP2, I've encountered it on 2 PC's. When a dialogue pops up and says, "This version of Nero is not compatible with this version of Windows" (paraphrasing here) then it's pretty obvious. If you are going to argue this, then you're simply delusional.

You aren't going to have much material to work with if you are going to search for my posts and attempt to pick them apart. I'm pretty much done posting here, as right now it's useless.

hi,

i am not trying to advertise for CloneDVD or AnyDVD but they ARE the simplist and fasest way to beat ArcCos, you sound like you are really frustrated, go and DL these two software for 21 day free trial, there are no other gay restictions like first 30 min or something so just bakup what you need in these 21 days, and buy the progs if you like it. Simple as that.

Good luck,
j
