I used Afterdawn a year ago to learn how to burn movies using DVD Shrink and Nero. Never had any problems. Now every single DVD (except one yesterday)I try to burn gives me the errors listed below:

Failed to read file "D"
Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)

Anybody have any idea they can send my way--thanks in advance!

This mainly means that the disc is damaged or it can be a badly pressed disc.

Try cleaning it and try again otherwise replace the DVD.

Check this site out,it has all the movies with problematic encryptions that can give DVD Shrink that crc error:

http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=48842

Crc use to mean dirty/damaged/or a bum pressed disc. Now those crc errors are popping up on the newer sony and columbia releases. See if any of those titles match the ones that give you problems.

Yeah the reason you are getting these error messages are because of the 'newer' copy protection...I had the same exact problem with Madagascar...

DVDFab can usually handle the same movies that AnyDVD can, but it is a free proggy. Use the 21 day trial of AnyDVD and then try out DVDFab Decrypter and make your decision.

Happy burning.

I found the free trial version of DVD Fab--I'll try that--is there really a full version for free somewhere--it looks pretty nice.

Which is better? DVD CLone or DVD Fab? Any opinions on this?

I'm definatley going to get AnyDVD to run in the background unless of course I wouldn't need it with DVD FAB?

DVDFab Decrypter is a completely free program and is available here: http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm The trial you mentioned is probably DVDFab Express, is a a more feature rich version of DVDFab Decrypter.

DVD Decrypter can be found here: http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/software.htm

DVDFab and CloneDVD are two completely different programs. DVDFab is a ripper and CloneDVD is a transcoder (compressor).

If you decide to get AnyDVD you won't be sorry as have not had one problem since I bought it. Look for when discount from AD which I think is now! Lifetime upgardes too!
As far as CloneDVD2 you can get by with DVDShrink and not spend the extra cash. Using vobBlanker also allows you to remove certain items like FBI warnings as well as advents and trailers before using Shrink. I have CloneDVD2 and it is nice but not everyone can afford to spend the extra dollars, yen, duetchmarks or euros just to have something to experiment with.
Of course need to look at threads from alkohol as he uses all free progys with vobBlkanker and says not a DVD out there that he cannot rip and burn using his recommendations. Experimented a bit and so far he has been right on.
Best of luck with whatever method you choose. If anything else at AD you will get LOTS of opinions on what is best but you will have to decide what is best for you.

To err is human, to really screw up.....use a computer.

What do you mean by slow down. Check and make sure your drive is in DMA mode and not PIO.

I mean I was able to burn a movie in 30 minutes or less for sure and now it's taking 45 to 60 minutes. Use a Plextar DVD burner!

If you are using the quality enhancements in Nero that is about the amount of time your backup will increase.
