(besides Nero 6.6.1.4)

Well to start with I would UNINSTALL that version of Nero, its buggy, and install this bug free one

http://httpdl2.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe
http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe

and if you are backing up copies you will need something like DVDDecrypter, available free from bbmayo site in my sig or if you want to spend $$$$ I recommend AnyDVD available for 21 day free trial from slysoft site.

DVDDecrypter and AnyDVD are used for breaking any encryptions on a movie allowing you to back it up.

@Yezinki

You have to download Nero Cleaning Tool to uninstall present Nero and do a fresh reinstallation with the good version

http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/eng/General_Clean_Tool.html

Also, here is a guide with some FREE software that will provide about anything you need for burning/converting.

A good free solution to back up older movies would be DVD Shrink and DVD43 (aka DVD For Free). DVD Shrink will decrypt older movies, while DVD43 will decrypt some of the newer ones. But as gwendolin noted, AnyDVD is the best decrypter available and is updated very often. It's well worth the money.

I also use DVD Decrypter, IMGBurn, PGCEdit, VobBlanker, and FixVTS for backing up movies.

After you uninstall Nero 6, make sure you use the Nero clean tool before installing the stable version of Nero. The link is below.

Also dont spend your $ on xcopy platinum. No matter what the sites that still offer it for sale say. If you do it may work but will not be legit. Legal sales of the software has been halted for a good while now.

From what I know, you have to use the Tool TO UNINSTALL, not after. If you uninstall from Control Panel, the Tool is useless, you have to go in Registry and manually delet any Ahead/Nero Entries.

OK sorry for the confusion, all I have ever done is Uninstall first, run clean tool to remove any remaining parts, re install and then Re Boot.

They share the same burning engine(ImgBurn has been updated), but only DVDD can ripp the files on your HDD. ImgBurn can not do that.
If you do not use Nero Clean Tool first and u uninstall from Control Panel, not all the registry entries will be removed( I know from practice). Also, some others have experienced the same.

If you have a movie that is on a DVD-9( D/L), it will not fit on a regular DVD-/+. This is where DVD Shrink compressess the movie to make it fit to a regular DVD(DVD-5). If you are going to use DVD Decrypter, and if you also have Nero, I personally don't think you need ImgBurn.

Here is a guide for DVD Shrink:

Since you have Nero 6, you will be using Nero Vision Express. Nero Vision 4 is part of Nero 7 upgrade.

Yes it has NVE, OEM versions are usually just BASIC versions.
There is a very good guide in my sig by both alkohol and bbmayo, check them out.

If you have nero 6 OEM, you would have to pay for nero 7 ( you can use the trial period)
NERO 7 will support blu-Ray and other features, like Nero Home and some other crap that I cannot think of. If you're just burning movies, music or data Nero6 does the same job.
