I'm looking for a little help. I was backing up a movie using the great directions from a link on this fourm. It has worked great so far.. I just opened my DVD +R discs and I'm getting a disc error when I try to play on a stand alone. I've done it before using Shrink/Nero and setting the booktype to DVD-ROM. How can I set this using Decrypet/Shrink? Or is there a better way?

Thanks!

Sony rebadges Lite-On drives...try the lite-on booktype change. If you have Nero it will booktype for you through DVD Shrink.

Booktyping is writing to a disc in such a way that it trick your DVD player into thinking it is reading a DVD-ROM (store bought movie), you can only do this with DVD+R's.

Here is a guide from KProbe on booktyping, and the utility should work with your Sony.

I was able to get to change the booktype if I selected BenQ. LightPro would not allow me to select anything. I set it to DVD-ROM and I got another coaster.

I do like using Decrypet/Shrink because I can easily back-up the movie the way I like it. I can get little to no compression going this way.

Any thoughts?

KProbe will only work for Lite-on drives, since you selected a BenQ and it worked, then perhaps your drive is not a rebadged Lite-on. Try this program DVDInfo Pro if your drive is capable it will let you set it and forget it. I used it for a rebadged Plex and it works extremely well. Make sure you dl the free version.

I may need to get the dope slap of the day. I *think* I may NOT hae clicked change when I selected DVD-ROM. I'll have to try again later when I get home. So BenQ may really work.. (me bad)
