Please tell me I can save the files on this disc.

Just a moment ago, I was burning a DVD RW disc and it was working fine. I was just doing what I usually do. Just adding files to the disc. It was almost done. Nero Software said the file adding was complete but it was in the process of adding the DVD high compatibility borders. Well my driver, only 2 months old, started ****in up for no reason. It started to make this really annoying ticking/scratching sound. Well Nero Software said burning failed. Well I thought maybe the files I just added won't work. So, hoping, I put the disc into the drive and it says the disc is unreadable.

Please tell me I can save the files on this disc.

I have nearly 4 gb of files on it.

Please tell me I can save the files on this disc.

Are there any free dvd data recovery programs I could use?

Thanks!!!

Try isobuster - I use the free version. It works wonders on discs that my drives can no longer read - may help you in this situation.
You can download it here:
http://isobuster.com/
Just one question aren't the original files still on your hd to reburn?

The thing is I was adding files to the disc that already had stuff on it. What I was going to add is still on my computer, but what's on the disc already is not.

The drive won't read the disc anymore.

So I'm trying to find a way to recover the files, put them on my hd and then burn them all later.

When I use isobuster here is what I get:

It says I need to buy isobuster in order to extract the files. Unless I'm not using the right free version, I don't know what to do.

Right click on ISO and extract from there. It will not make the files an iso image. It will just put them back on the hd as there are on the disc.

DiskInternals CD and DVD Recovery 2.0 is released
Posted by Dan Bell on 25 February 2006 - 17:48 - Source: DiskInternals

Bob_tm used our news submit to tell us that he prefers this program over some others as it seems easier to use and can recover discs without user assistance. Wow, maybe even I could master it!
DiskInternals CD & DVD Recovery
Restore lost/corrupted files on CDs and DVDs!

* Just finished burning CD or DVD, only to find out that some files appear to be corrupted or inaccessible?
* Power went out, while recording data?
* Added a new session to your CD/DVD and lost old files?

Do not worry. DiskInternals CD and DVD Recovery, as the name implies is a software solution capable of recovering data from CDs and DVDs, including multi-session ones. CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVR+R, DVD-RW, DVR+RW, DVD+R DL, DVD-R DL and DVD-RAM disks are supported. The program recovers any type of files - data, pictures, video, music - and processes ISO 9660, Joliet and UDF file systems. The program uses a smart file recovery algorithm that skips bad sectors.

The website goes on to say: "The process of recovery is a very straightforward one - insert disk, press "Recover" and get the files you need. The software is easy to use and does not require any additional skills. We tried to make working with it as comfortable as possible."

Sounds good! You can examine the abilities of the software by visiting this link for a trial download and the file size is just over a meg. If you like it, they have it available for less than 30 dollars US. If you give it a try, let us know your thoughts!

Try the 1st one listed - under track 21 - this may pull all the files off the disc. If not then you may have to right click on each iso. I have only used it for video_ts - one one folder on the disc. It's a pretty fast process - pulling 4.3 gig takes roughly 10 mins for me.
Or try the demo Ireland listed.

You're welcome!
2 things to check - make sure your using quality media - like verbatim. My LiteOn will make a ticking -I guess you could call- it when it hates the media.
And that your firmware is up to date.
