Here's my problem: I'm trying to burn a movie which is almost 8 gigs (DVD-9). Even when I strip the extras with DVD Shrink, the compression is at 70%. I don't like burning if the movie is compressed anymore than 90%. Do I have any options other than putting the movie on 2 DVD-5's? Plus I lose all of the menu's. What can I do?

just burn it using a dual layer disc, then u wont need any compression. if thats not an option then i would suggest dvd rebuilder and hc (hanks encoder). there is a free version of rebuilder and hc is free too. if u want to step it up a notch then use rebuilder pro and cce ( these are not free). both of these combos give u a really high quality backup. check under the rebuilder form for info on how to use these apps. u should be able to do a google search for all of them and get a download site, or u could check at filepedia.com here at ad. i think they still have these for download.

Jeez, most dvd's these days are over 7GB so it'll pretty much be impossible to get the compression to 90%+ on a DVD-5. You're either going to have to lose some quality or go with DVD-9.

Thanks for the advise. But I've found that DVD-9 doesn't work on some DVD players. DVD-R works 95% of the time, but not DVD-9. I'll try rebuilder though.

How far do you guys think I can go with the compression(with DVD shrink)? 80%?

I have gone as low as 65% with Shrink and had fairly good quality. Make sure you do deep analize and it takes a while.
