Are single layer blanks going to be obsolete are dual layer blanks going to be obsolete?

When at Future Shop the sales rep told me to paraphrase, "dual layer will be obsolete because no one is buying them. Or atleast the price isn't coming down because everyone seems to happy with single layer which are much cheaper"

I myself like it when the prices come down as they are w/ d/l blank media. W/ the advent of Blue-Ray and DVD-HD I doubt they will be obselete any time soon as the prices for the new blank media will probably be very expensive. Just do not worry until the time comes

DLs aren't obsolete since they will give you a better backup than single layers, how can something better be obsolete. And bluray/HDDVD burners aren't existant yet so that is pointless. A day will come when DLs drop in price, then singles will be obsolete.

Yes, sir. I most definitely agree. But not until DL discs drop down to sub-dollar prices, I don't think single layer discs will go anywhere. I mean, there was a time when DVD+/-R were well over a dollar per disc. Now, you can get 50 for $15.

I also remember when DL discs were around $100 for 10. Now we can get them for 2 dollars each.

The drop is inevitable.

A big problem with DL disks is that rewritables are not available. I haven't even started trying to burn DL's since there is nothing to practice on - there's usually a lot of trial and error in making backups and that's what you need rewritables for. Right now, if you screw up a disk, you're out two dollars or more.

Has anyone heard whether and when DL rewritables will come on the market?

Price is a big issue when purchasing dual layers, I bought a pack of 15 at around $80.00...but that was a while ago. The price drop only means more buisness for the DL's lol 2.00 a disc is great I only use them for movies I really, REALLY like...

wvmcl ,
I have never practiced doing a D/L DVD and have Zero failure rate and I have done over 60. I use Verbatim and keep the burns slow and use Imgburn to burn the iso image file. As XxRUINSxX stated the prices have come down so you might as well try one. Just use Good Blank media and w/ D/L that is Verbatim as the rest of is pretty low quality
