I am new to XBOX but good at computers. My daughters XBOX (13th Feb 02) wont work anymore I get this message in about 7 languages "xbox requires service Please call xbox customer service" and there is 07 at the top left side of the screen. I have read a few forums to try to find the problem but i cannot make any sense out of the answers. Can anyone tell me in laymans terms what I have to do to try to repair this problem. Also is there any kind of CMOS type of setup built into an XBOX motherboard. And if there is how do I get into it please.

Here is the 07 error code. I dont know if you xbox is still in warranty or not. If it is out, then you can try the following.
______________________________________________________________________

Most of the times, the IDE cable is not properly connected when you see this error. Please reattach the ide cable. Not only to the harddisk drive but also to the dvd drive. ALso try to reconnect the ide cable to the motherboard.

Press pretty hard so it goes all the way in. Make sure it is seated straight and proper in the drives and the motherboard. If you still have an error 7. Try another ide cable. If there is still no go, try to set the jumpers on the rearside of the harddisk drive. Set it to master or cable select.

After this you still have the same problem, this means the HDD died. So send it out for service and replace HDD.

Thanks for your reply. I pulled the Xbox apart and checked all the connections which were all snug. I was told to check the 3 big capacitors under the DVDROM to check for leakage but that was ok also. And I was also advised to get the unit modded so that I could use a hard drive from my PC. I havent had it modded yet as I am looking online to see if I could do it myself ( I am an electrician so I should be able to do it if I get a circuit) But If I can find a local xbox man in PENRITH NSW AUSTRALIA I will probably get him to do it. Also the drive is a Western Digital WD80EB-28CGH1.
