PS2 died?

i put a game in my ps2, and turned it on...and nothing happened. The green light is on...it just doesnt read/load the disc! Anyone know what could be wrong? Could it be a fuse? the ps2 (slim ntsc) is 1 1/2 years old.

Yes I have had this problem 3 times and I have fixed it each time all you need to do is GENTALY clean of the laser lens with a q-tip if it is not the slim version you'll need to void your warenty and take it apart, but DO NOT DO THAT WITHOUT READING A TUTORIAL you can ruin the reset and eject button

the alcohol didnt work...i was actually wrong or i think i was...the green light doesnt come on...its just the red and nothing happens when i press the on button.
Mik3h: i havent used any backups on this pstwo, only originals.

First thing first. Have u ever open up ur console? If not u need to check that switch. For the SAFEST side, borrow a friend's switch and see what happens when u put it in ur console, then i can directly know what is the cause of this. But I gurantee it is the switch thats causing problem.

That guide is meant for both backups, rebuilds and console repairs. Scroll to near the bottom, a guide to repairing the laser is there..

thats a prety nice guide...will it look the same inside my pstwo (slim)?
How do i know if its the laser...if it was the laser wouldnt the pstwo power up? because right now its just got the red light and nothing happens when i push the power button.
Could it be the power cable or wouldnt the red light be on then?
If i open it up...what should i look for?

I need help, one of my PS2s doens't read games except for Marvel VS Capcom 2 (this is the only game that it reads) but before it reads all of my games... What should I do? Mike does your guide work for this? thanks!!! :D
