I bought a few ex-rental Japanese movies from the video shop and I am having trouble backing them up using DVD decrypter, DVD Shrink or DVDXCopy Platinum.
The DVD's are region 2 PAL UK
The Happiness of the Katakuris
Visitor Q
and MDP Psycho
When I first run DVD decrypter it says
W 12:54:33 Possible Structure Protection Found!
W 12:54:33 1 area has been marked as 'suspect'.
W 12:54:33 Dummy sectors will be inserted where necessary.
Then I start it up and the log file has the following messages

After copying a certain amount of the disc it then stops with an
I/O error!
ScsiStatus:0x02
Interepretation: Check condition
The discs all have the same error message yet they are not damaged and all play fine on the computer.
I have used DVD decrypter fine in the past and I am really stumped as to what I have done wrong this time even after reading through many help files.
Help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks.
Try again for a search on Optimum Settings for DVD Decrypter.
I can't remember right off hand, but I changed some of my settings from a post that I saw.
Sorry for the lack of detail, but I remember changing a setting to "Brute Force" and another one to tell it Automatically try again when I comes upon an error. The default will prompt a message and ask you to try again, abort, etc. And will not continue until you tell it to do one of the options.
Maybe someone can elaborate a little on my comments.
But I personally have seen the same error message that you have. But with my settings, it doesn't seem to matter any.
I think I found the tutorial you mentioned but when I put my settings how it suggested I have too many errors. so many that even when the error retries is on 1 it predicts a total time of 130hours!
Thanks for your suggestion though.
VobBlanker needs the already ripped VIDEO_TS.IFO file to "process" in order to work properly. Have you tried the latest from DVDFAB Decrypter + VobBlanker 2.1.0.0 + DVD Shrink yet? Give it a shot and see if that'll solve the issue you're having.
Honestly, I have not seen/encountered any dvds/movies (new released or old), regardless if it's RipGuard or ARccOS that DVDFAB Decrypter and VobBlanker can not handle. Every movies/dvds I ripped and backed up always worked 100% flawlessly.
For more info on how to use "DVDFAB Decrypter + VobBlanker", Go here http://www.k-probe.com/backup-newly-release-DVD-DVDFAB-Decrypter-... -- or if that failed to rip and backup, then try my other method (the bold link) on "DVD Decrypter + PgcEdit + PSL plugins + FixVTS" under my sig. This is possibly one of the best method ever to rip and backup any dvds/movies. Both methods "DVDFAB Decrypter + VobBlanker" and "DVD Decrypter + PgcEdit + PSL plugins" has never let me down.
Good luck and let me know how's your result turns out.

Tried DVDFab Decrypter and it just stops reading the disc part way through, no warning or error given.
I then tried using PgcEdit/PSL2 plugin method and DVD Decrypter gives me around 50 files skipped and then Pgcedit crashes. If I restart PSL2 and follow phase 2 it just gives me a load of error messages.
I've never had this much hastle ripping DVD's before but recently I had a new DVD drive put in, could it be that that is the problem?
If I use DVD identifyer on the discs it says this
[16:55:04] ERROR : Unsupported Medium Detected
[16:55:04] INFO : Disc Identification Requires DVD, HD DVD or Blu-ray Recorder And Matching Media
One thing I find strange about the DVDs that I am trying to rip is that they have so many files, Happiness of the Katakuris has 99 files, whereas most of the other DVDs that I have ripped had a lot less.
I should correct my last mail now.
1.It can't be a problem with my new DVD drive because it still rips other DVDs fine and plays these ones fine too.
2.The DVD identifier seems to give the same error with all of my DVDs!
