Some of my back ups glitch

Most of the movies I back up are perfect. Some, however, play fine then begin to glitch. I have learned to wipe off any traces of fingerprints. Some, like I said, just fail.
Is there a program that I could run on a burned dvd to detect these errors? I do not watch all that I back up immediatly. I sucks when I pull out a movie three months later and it isn't any good.
I use clonedvd2 and anydvd. It would be helpful and worth the extra time for me to run an additional software that would detect these errors, if any such program exists.

I do not know how to tell. I am using CompUSA private lable DVD-R 4x
I have been reading for about 1 1/2 hours here and can tell that is not the brand you are asking for. I just do not know how to tell.

Tonight I backed up North country. Movie not so good, burn good! Perfect, in fact.
Backed up walk the line, worked fine until ch. 6 freeze up and digital glitch stuff on screen.
Both blank dvds off of the same spindle.

There are only 3 possibilities that I see. (1) media is cheap (unknown brand of media use cheap dye). (2) bad sectors, dummy cells has not been completely removed. (3) burning too fast.
That's why I only use genuine media like (A) Taiyo Yuden, (B) Verbatim "advanced azo or datalife plus" and (3) Hitachi Maxell (made in japan). Furthermore, I've always "process" my ripped VIDEO_TS.IFO through VobBlanker 2.1.0.0 to completely fixed the bad sectors, dummy cells or structures. And of course, all of my backups worked 100% flawlessly, meaning no glithces, no black screens, no chapters jumping, no freezing, etc.
Just my 2 cents.

My thoughts would be:
1 - Poor Quality Media
2 - Burning to Fast
3 - Stand Alone Player Not Liking Media (have you tried playing them on another brand player?)
I backed up North Country with DVDFab Decrypter/Shrink(auto burn with Decrypter) Watched the whole movie, played flawlessly. (TY media played on a Sony 715)

I think if you did a search on the subject you would find that in most cases cheap media would be the cause. Compusa just had a sale on sony's 100 @ $29. I had to redo a bunch of backups I made because of CMC mag.

It's the company that makes probably the worst possible discs you can waste your money on. They make such discs as Memorex to mention a few. It has been found that the majority of discs produced by CMC Mag cause problems and it is recommended that you avoid using them.

How can I tell if I have these crappy discs?
Bigger Question: Is there a program I can run that would detect errors in an already burned dvd?
I use AnyDVD and clonedvd2 and as I stated before, most of my dvds are totally error free.

In most instances it will be printed on the pack other than that you can put them in DVDDecrypter for identification.

Nero speed test
K-probe- for lite-on burners
Plextools- for plextor drives
q-suite/q-scan for benq drives

Try the free version with adverts. Look for the PI/PO test.Takes about 20-25 mins.
Of course,your drive is going to have to recognize those backups to be able to scan them. Backups on lower quality media can become unreadable in as little as 6 months.The low quality dye some of those crappo manufacturers use will break down quicker.
To add to alkohol's post, compression can be a contributer of that issue. Some of those stand alones can have a harder time with compression. I've even seen players that had harder times reading certain MID coded media. If you get the freezing/skipping/and pixellation issues,it's usually on a stand alone players.
For playback issues:
Play those backup discs that show issues on other drives. Keep note of where those issues occur. First look at it on the pc,using the drive that produced that backup,to play it. It should look near perfect. Also confirm in as many other drives as possible. Take notes of how each drive reacts to them.
1) Your media is on the lower end of quality spectrum
2) Your burner's firmware may need updated. This firmware tells your burner how to burn the media you have.
3) Standard 4x burn speed. Poor media may have to be burned slower.
4) Keep compression to a minimum. Main movie only,no extra sound streams and other crap.
5) Keep hard drive/s defragged.
6) Keep the burn from reaching the outer edge. A target of 4360 mbs on quality media and definely lower on crap media.
7) Burn engines.
Stand alones can have a hard time with dvd backups.Some of them are very picky and any of those 7 possibilities is usually the culprit.
When I encounter any issues on my backups,it's usually the stand alone player/s faults.
Another good test:
Try re-ripping those backups. If you can get them back onto your harddrive,then you'll be ok. If they are filled with errors,or errors in the wrong spot: Then you will likely get a crc error.

If the CompUSA DVD discs are of the same quality as CompUSA branded CD-RW discs, then I would suggest throwing them into the nearest garbage can.
Using quality media is very important. New writing strategies and support for newer media is important, so make sure your firmware is updated.
If I had to lay a bet on the cause of your problem, I would go with the odds and say its the brand of discs you are using.
