I have had nothing but problems the last day trying to burn so i started completly over. I uninstalled all Nero products and ran the clean tool provided by Gwendolin. For the time being I have only installed Nero Version: 6.6.0.18 which the attached log will show. I have not added the Nero Recode yet. I tried to copy an entire dvd adn it failed and the message was Could not perform Fixation. What shouled I do now????I will not try and add Nero Recode until I can get Nero running correctly. It seemed like when I added Nero Recode it chaanged the version of Nero from 6.6.0.18. Attached is the log form this morning. Thanks for your help.

I've scanned thru this thread and here's my take. Maybe it will help - don't know but here's my thinking anyhow :) Okay- if you copying dvd's from Tivo - recode may not like the file structure and that may be the reason you are getting the read error. So copy to copy is your option.
Make sure the dvd's you are copying from are clean - a finger print will throw it off and cause a failure.
Also I would turn off the 'burn on the fly option' - this does copying in real time so any little hiccup and bang it fails & it's coaster time.
The next thing I would suggest is pick up some quality media to help stop the burn failures. Fujifilm & Ritek are okay but not that great. Try Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden For Taiyo Yuden made look in store for Made in Japan Fuji or Sony.

Ok went out and purchased some Verbatim media. Copy entire dvd and it worked. I have attached the log in case ist might shed some light on my previous problems. Should I download Recode and see if I can get it to work with out changing my version of Nero? Thanks.

The big difference I see in the new log is this Disc Manufacturer: MCC 02 - RG20 Ah the good stuff!!
Plus the new log shows no burns errors or your drive inability to write to the media.
Now taking 2 or more parts to combine if using a tivo burn - that I can't help w/. Your can check out this thread and see if it helps at all about the tivo stuff:

Well it happened again. The dreaded error message Failed to read from the file. I downloaded Recode from the site Binkie 7 suggested adn it didn't change my version of Nero from 6.6.0.18 yeah! Did a test dvd in Nero Recode burning Main Movie to dvd adn it worked. Then tried to Remake a dvd using the same dvds that I used initilly. Trying to import main parts from 2 dvds into 1. Used the Verbatim dvds.As you can see fromm the following log it failed. I can send the log form the successful burn if need be. This is really frustrating. Thanks for any help you can provide.

This one is frustrating to me too!! I did some digging and don't know how much good this will do but here is a response from Nero on this failure to read file bit and possible causes. This is for Nero 7 but my thinking is may apply to 6 also. Here's a link and the quote from Nero 12/05:

2.When you install Nero 7 it leaves temp files in the system that the Nero 7 program needs to operate. So if you use a security program like Webroots Window Washer that removes history,temp internet files,windows temp files,ect you have to disabe the feature that removes temp files or it screws up Nero 7
3. He says that this will all be fixed in the nex update of Nero 7 in Appx. 2 months
4. Allso Nero recode will not work with anykind of external drive ex. cd, dvd rom( will read from it but will not burn) according to him.
5. Don't know if this is true or just a pat email to keep me from asking them for help.
Allthough when I put the source disk in a internal drive and burn to another internal drive Recode will work maybe 6 out of 10 times

Your problem seems to be when adding. You may need to send your log to Nero but I don't know how much use they will be judging from the response above.

Well I hav been traveling for a few days and thought I would give it another try when I returned this morning. Well I attempted to burn the dvds i have been trying to burn since the beginning of this ordeal. Except this time instead of burning to a disk I went to the my hard drive it fiailed and attached is the log. As noted above I can burn an entire disk in express but I can't compile adn put parts of 2 dvds on to 1 with Recode. Shoud I try another shrinage program and if so what? Thanks for all of your help.

Well I listened to Blinkie and downloaded Clonedvd2 and used this to burn the parts of the 2 original dvds to my hard drive. This worked. I than used Recode to put the 2 parts onto 1 dvd and was successful using the Remake a DVD process!! Finally. this remaking of the dvd took approximaletly 90 minutes. Is this a long time or is there something I can do to shorten the burning process? I then used this new dvd and burned another copy using Recode and the Copy entire dvd process. This was successful but took 106 minutes to burn. I have attached both logs. Thanks for all your help.

That's the kind of thing you would get if your drives were in PIO mode. The only thing i think might have something to do with it is this one:

I think this is the way the source disc is scanned... It does take a lot longer... Like, instead of scanning in a straight line, it waves through the file.
The rest isn't allarming... (quite good actually!)

Thanks Permiggs I really appreciate all of the assistance given by you and the others in this forum. It is quite a service you provide and it is sure better then the customer support offered by Nero. Is there anything I can do to change Sequential Recording Mode?
