I decided to play "The Cave" last night for an out of town guest. I could not play it on my main dvd player. I had backed up this copy about a month ago and it played great. (on the same dvd player) Just out of curiousity, I played it on my pc and it played beautiful. I used DVDFabdecrypter and volblanker when I backed up this movie.

I am confused. Anyone out there have the same problem. I'm beginnig to wonder if I should replay my previous backups. Any advise?

If it plays on your PC, then there must be a problem with your standalone!

The standalone probably doesn't like the media you used.........

What brand media did you backup the movie on?

I used nexxtech. I have a three month old panasonic dvd recorder. I have not had any problems playing any dvd's, cd's etc. on the dvd player and I still don't. I played several other backed up movies last night over a month old and they were all fine. The cave will start, sony ad (of course), previews etc. But once, I hit play, it plays 5 seconds and stops. I appreciate all of your comments.

Use better media.
(+r and booktype to DVD-ROM) if possible.

This will greatly improve the compatilibity.
Chances are using a cheap disc you got a hold of a bad one,
Check the link below to find out more.

The following list is in preference order. The best discs are near the top of the list. The discs at
the bottom of the list are suitable only for a landfill.

Almost flawless burns with 95-100% reliable results:
PVC = Pioneer = (-R)(-RW)
MXLRG01, MXLRG02 = Maxell = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
MCC = Mitsubishi Chemicals = (-R)<-----------------VERBATIM MY CHOICE #1
TDKG02 = TDK Corp = (-R) ... be aware of unbranded fakes
