Do you mean the DVD-ROM 'booktype' feature ? I'm sorry, I'm just not sure I understand what you mean.

Always use good quality blank media. Verbatim is always a good call. Don't be seduced by those 50-spindles you find in the $2.99 bin at your local car wash! :)

What software did you use to apply booktyping/bitsetting?

Here's some info on the subject:

He is talking about the DVD-Rom features that only are usable through the menu when you put the DVD into your computer, like direct link to website and such. I'm not sure how to put these features on the DVD since the ripping software looks only for the video files. I believe I remember someone saying that you can manually input these features, but again, not sure how.

If you're referring to the special features and menus found on the DVD, the only way to keep them intact using DVDshrink is to do a full movie backup, but keep in mind that quite a bit of compression will be applied to be able to fit the movie on a single layer disk. If you re-author the movie to increase picture quality and remove what you don't want, all the features and menus are gone (the only selections you'll have are for title, sub-picture, and audio channel/language)

I believe if you use clonedvd2, you will have an option to keep menus/features, but it's not free.

If you use DVD Decrypter to rip the disc image, it will also copy the computer files outside of VIDEO_TS. Therefore, you should be able to keep those features.

In any other case, you technically should be able to add those files manually before burning, but if you shrunk the DVD with a program like DVD Shrink, the compression will adjust to the max disc capacity, so you won't be able to do that... Unless you manually adjust the compression around it.
