DVDshrink and then what ?

Hi There !
I've just downloaded DVDshrink, an dused it to rip/shrink a DVD-movie...that was easy !
Then i tried burning the files with N.E.R.O (551020) and with RECORD NOW MAX 4.0....burn was fine !
Now my problem is :
My PHILLIPS DVD 751 can not read the disk ???
...but both my PC's DVD-RW and DVD drive can read it fine...and plays it fine with POWERDVD software !
Has anyone got any idea what the problem could be ?
I find it kinda wierd !?!

Did you use DVD-rom UDF/ISO mode ? or just DVD-video mode ?
Or something else ??
I checked on www.dvdrhelp.com and your philips should play the DVD-rw !!

I just used DVD-video mode !
...my friend can play it on his THOMSEN DVD player..
I have no problem playing the copied DVD-R's my friends sometimes have with them on my PHILLIPS, nor do i have problems with VCD's !
Can u make a firmware update on a standalone DVD-player ??

Yes works better for some DVD standalone players.
I can play movies I burned in UDF/ISO mode in 4 standalone players and the PS2 (i tested it)
I can play movies I burned in DVD-video mode only in my PS2.
That says it all....

I think I'm having the same problem. Every shrink I've done so far works fine on the PC, but fails on the standalone. I've gotten GOOD results, though, using the same media, same standalone, same burner, same burning software, same settings, with filesets that have NOT been shrunk. There's something off with the filesets that DVDS produces, I suspect. Am I doing something wrong? Does anyone know what?

I use DVDSHRINK to get the files i need and then NERO to burn !
this is how i do it :
make 2 folders, VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS and then move ALL the files u get from DVDSHRINK to the VIDEO_TS folder !
Now burn it as a DVD-UDF with NERO, very importent that it is DVD-UDF !

That should work ! it does with me and my friends !

Well, not exactly. I use RecordNow Max. Everything else is exactly as you describe, and I get good results with filesets that have not been run through the "shrinker."

oooh, recordmax did NOT work for me....ONLY NERO !!!

I use recordnow, and have had no problems.
One quick question, you are copying the entire folders, right? So when you look at you finnished DVD with Windows Explorer you see the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders, right? And you've used caps and underscores?
(Just exploring the possibilities)

Yes, with explorer u see the 2 folders named exactly like this :
VIDEO_TS
AUDIO_TS
...the AUDIO_TS folder is emty, but some DVDs require it, so i make it !

Yes, I'm setting up the folders exactly like that, and they're burning exactly like that.
- I've been getting good results so far with RNM, whereas I tried Nero for a month and produced about 35 coasters, a 100% failure rate.

OK- here's all the variables in this equation:
(1) Software being used
(2) Hardware being used to burn
(3) Hardware being used to read (ie play the movie)
(4) Media being used.
Seems like we've ruled out #1. And #2 is VERY expensive to try. For #3 try a friend's stand alone DVD player. Then try a different media.
My stand alone doesn't like one friend's DVD burner and it doesn't like another friend's software. I've also tried different media, and it likes some but not others.

all i can say is, the way i do it RNM fucked it up, but NERO roxxx !
I use SENTINEL media ! (cheap)
I use PIONEER A05 !
I dont khow what the prob. can be if that dont work ?!

I don't think we've ruled out #1 at all. I think that's the only thing that hasn't been ruled out. I've personally ruled out the burning program, as I get good results otherwise. I have NOT ruled out DVDshrink as being the problem, which is what started all this.
And I suspect that the problem with Nero had something to do with drivers, ASPI layers, and the like. It was the latest trial version. Anyway, since I uninstalled and went to RNM, I've been getting generally good results. So there. :-)

Well, Mike. If the DVD playes on your computer it isn't the ripping or compiling software. And you say that you are confidant in your burning software.

Try setting Nero to burn at 1x only after using DVD Shrink. Sometimes if you go above this with compressed files you have problems playing back.
