Convert WMV to DVD out of sync

I am trying to make a DVD out of a WMV file. The WMV plays perfectly, but if I convert it to a DVD file, it is several seconds out of sync.
I used Nero to convert, and I also tried another software app to convert it with the same result.
I even tried converting the WMV to AVI first, and still a sync. problem.
How can I burn a WMV file that is in sync, or fix the sync problem in the DVD files before burning them?

Thanks for the link. Have you had the problem I have had with wmv conversions out of sync prior to using the Stoic converter you linked?

I've run into many formats that have sync problems, or header problems, etc etc. No one program will solve every problem, but there are some out there that work very well. Stoik is one, bink I also use, videofixer, and on and on. For WMV I think Stoik.

The issue is when I convert from wmv to dvd, it gets out of sync, so what are you talking about? It's not going out of sync because it's pirated.

Yeah, the problem isn't because it's pirated it's probably due to varible bitrate audio in the file. Many programs expect the same frame size per cycle. When that isnt the case, you get sync issues.
BTW, did stoik work? If not, you should probably try ripping the audio out and using that new file when you convert. You can use power video to audio converter 1.01 from http://www.sagasoft.net to do this.

I ran it through STOIK, but didn't know what output format to select.
I chose the last option to maintain full quality, and ended up with a 32 GB file! However, it was in sync.
I am redoing it now, and I selected the 25 fps High PC format, but wasn't sure if I should use that or the DivX setting. I want to maintain quality, but wasn't expecting that large a file. And then once it is done converting to AVI, I suppose I will need to convert it to DVD, and that will make it larger still.
I don't care if the end product requires 2 Dual-Layer DVDs, but I don't want it bigger than that. I hope that by reducing the file size, it doesn't end up out of sync again.

No, you should get a much smaller MPG if you encoded it because the way you outputted it is fully uncompressed frames. That's why it's so huge. My fault for not mentioning this. I use the divx settings and output that way. The amount of video quality you lose will be negligable, and unfortunately some degradation is a normal part of the conversion process.

FWIW, I just checked out what had converted at 25 fps, and it was out of sync : (
I fear that unless I let it go with no loss of quality like the first time through @ 32 GB, it will get out of sync.
I am trying it now using the DivX option.

Well, you could go to the other suggestion I mention which was to extract the audio and convert it yourself. Then with this new stream you can mux the .mpg video (which works for you) and the re-encoded audio together into a new file that will be in sync.

Well, the DivX option won't work. It used 6GB for the first 3 minutes; this is a 2-hour concert.
Any other suggestions to convert WMV to a DVD?

Jigen: I don't get how separating the audio from the video before converting is going to keep it in sync. I would expect that I would have to resync the audio manually.
Could you please either point me to a good guide on how to do this or explain it in greater detail?

Ok, you are getting frustrated, but I assure you that you are on the right path. 6gb for 3 minutes is really large, but we are saving as AVI and so the size isn't unexpected, but you have control over how big it gets. Also, once you use TMPGEnc or whatever you will use to convert to MPG this size will be greatly reduced.
I am going out for awhile, but I will be back later and would be glad to post further info when I return.

Ok, the way you control the size is to pick what codec Stoik uses to encode with. You selected DivX, but what codec? From the output profiles tab in Stoik, where is says compressor, that is where you choose the codec. Uncompressed produces huge files, but excellent quality can be retained. Other codecs like MS MPEG-4 v2 will give ok quality with much, much smaller file sizes. The codec I personally use is PICVideo MJPEG. Not free, but an excellent codec that treads the line between good quality with massive file size and smaller files with good quality.
Also remember that when you encode to MPG for the final step before burning authoring and burning, your file size will be greatly reduced. For instance a 24-26GB AVI of a 2hr show will produce around a 2-3gb file when compressed to a 2hr DVD by a program like TMPGEnc.
